For anyone with a tile on the Tempo fountain at Bay Lake Tower. While staying at BLT this past week we discovered a lot of deterioration on the tiles, some were almost unreadable. I will show you ours from opening day last to this past week. I wonder how bad the fountain will look at 5 yrs old??

That seems to go with the theme of materials used at BLT hopefully the development company and dvc will take responsibilities on these poor products. Not sure why they would use viberant paint, and metal plaques (?) when the building is constantly exposed to lake front eliments.

How sad, I would send a email to the DVD Satisfaction Team and voice your displeasure.

I was disappointed the first day we saw ours (on opening day). There was already rust on the tile. I'm not surprised the tiles have deteriorated to the extent they have. I'm not sure if it is the quality of the materials or if it was just the wrong type of material for the design. When I purchased, I didn't realize the tiles were going to be getting wet all the time like they do. I agree with you I don't think they will be readable before too much more time passes.

I wonder if there is some legal mumbo jumbo stating that the tiles could deteriorate over time and what you see is what you get.

I hope that you did not have to pay a lot to see your names disapear like that. It would sadden me to see my family name fade away that way. As I get older, I do not need any other reminders that life if a fleeting thing and that we are all fading away at our very own private pace, without it being on display for all to see.

Is the water in the Tempo fountain chlorinated?

It looks like it is given how clear it appears in the pictures people have posted.

If so, and those tiles are stainless steel, then that is likely your culprit as there are different qualities of stainless steel with regard to corrosion resistance.

Wow, that is a striking comparison. i would email member satisfaction.

you only brought more points - think it was either 160 points in one contract or 200 points.

so yea it was probably designed to be destroyed after a while.

wow....that's really bad :sad2:

y'know, i visited my brick on the walkway to the GF this past may, and it still looked great after 15 years - i'm surprised they didn't use more durable materials for the plaques:confused3

i do hope you write a letter to MS...

Yikes! That is a striking difference in a year's time. Yes, definitely write a letter and send it with copies of the pictures.

Being one of the first 1000 contracts and getting a tile on the fountain was not a selling point for us, the location and beautiful accommodations were. We have seen our tile a few times and honestly would not care if it was there or not. That being said I would feel sorry for someone who bought with desire to be part of something special and may not have been to BLT yet, only to arrive and not be able to find their tile because it had deteriorated beyond recognition, and there were some tiles that were unreadable. I also wonder what cost this will have to future maintenance fees, because I'm sure something will have to be done in the future to change it.

I noticed the same thing when I was there earlier this year. I mentioned this to a guide when I was adding on more points last month. He said that DVC is well aware of the problem and is working on a solution and replacement of the tiles.

I noticed the same thing with our tile and I stayed at BLT Aug 2009. I wanted to take my family to see it, but I was not as willing to show them our rusty name on the Tempo Fountain as I was to show them our name on the robe at Kidani. (which turned out great btw)

It does look pretty bad, and I agree it is a testament to the total disregard to the membership that was shown in the construction of BLT. It appears many things are being redone due to the lack of de$ign and engin$$ring.
