Details of WDW's High Speed Rail Station

phorsenuf:

A bus eh?? That's what I thought. Ride the train, then have to get on a bus anyway....

Apparently France is the HSR example for the world? One question about it (and I don't know the answer), is it's annual budget subsidised or does it make enough money to self-fund itself?

No passenger railway in the world operates without a subsidy.

You should expect to see some changes in the grants for high-speed rail development, particularly after the outcome of the November elections. Some projects will be altered or simplified; Some states will be "returning" the grants they already received.

What's nice about the location in Tampa is that it's right across the street from the cemetery where the dream of high-speed rail will ultimately be buried.

Uh, No.

Do not discount the both importance and promise of passenger rail development (high-speed, commuter, and long-distance) in this country. You literally cannot build enough highway lanes to keep up with demand, and regardless the train is often faster and more convenient. No single mode of transportation is the right answer in all applications; All modes have a role to fill.

Everyone should keep in mind next time you go into the long term profitable company's store of Walmart it was also most likely built with subsidies too.

Site of the old Morgan Street jail. It's meant to be an intermodal center, with the options for the light rail, buses, and other connections built on modularly - so the HSR budget isn't paying for some massive complex to support the other systems that aren't up and running yet (aka: Anaheim's plans). Rather, they build the 3rd floor as HSR to keep it on grade, then use the first floor for street level traffic (taxis, rentals) and buses and such and then leave the second floor open for the light rail if and when it comes online.

I don't know about that location. Seems like a very busy area and crowded. Also, how's that area after dark?

I don't discount the importance and promise. I discount the ability.

Also, I meant that literally -- the Tampa location IS right across from a cemetery.

The reason...my padawans...that no private companies will build nuclear plants or high speed rails (buy and large...there are exceptions such as environmental protests as in nuclears...but that is abused by the economic powers that be as a shield to hide their true motivations) is....drumroll please....

because there is more money to be made by burning dirt cheap fossil fuels.

shocking...i know...but something that has been kinda evident since about 1900.

The motivation is there is more money to be made the old way...we all know it...if we don't, you need a neurologist.

So 99.999% of the time...as why the private sector (and in far too many cases - the public sector) does or doesn't do something...the answer is cold hard cash. (that includes one rather large company that makes cartoons:smickey:)

So I guess a Mini Magic Express Hub will be built at the WDW lakeland train stop, with probably some Disney Souvenir stores, $3.00 20 ounce Cokes by then, a taxi area, Disney Car Care Center number 2, a New Hess Station, and a Limo Hire area.

So I will have to get in line at the airport for the train line, and then at the WDW world train station to get in line for the bus shuttle line. And then get in line for the Check-In-Resort area, and drop off my bags so I can get in the Park entrance line. I'm exhausted.

It might be easier to take the Airport Magic Express directly to the resort and just stay seated watching that Disney Welcome Video.

Maybe Disney is planning to expand the Monorail to go to the Train Stop?
Hey if the State of Florida and the USA government can build the high speed train, Disney can afford to expand the Monorail, No ? At least expand the Monorail to go to the Deluxe resorts. Magic Express Mini Routes for the Moderates and Value Resorts. Maybe Disney will add a Monorail Resort Fee?

Pepsi Company, Please build a convenience store at the Convention Center Site, so I can get off for a few minutes and pick up some Diet Pepsi and discount Beer to take to the WORLD. I sure hope Disney doesn't try to control the products sold at the Convention Center Railroad Stop. I always wished a convenience store would open up at the MCO airport, right near the Magic Express site, so I can buy pepsi products and a 6 pack of beer at like 20 percent of the price of the Disney Sundries Stores.

It will be interesting to see what the WDW Train Station will be like and the transportation hubs there that might take you to your resort. Maybe they will add an expanded train to take you directly to the Ticket Transportation Center. If you travel with no carry on luggage, you could go right to the Magic Kingdom.

It might make taking a LIMO directly to your resort more popular than ever.

So when will this WDW train station become a reality, if construction and budget costs are maintained, and the economy stays healthy enough to afford the expenditure in the future?

Probably right around the same time we build suburban homes on Mars.

Philct: You are right. It will probably be easier just to take the Magic Express from the airport.
Or, drive like we always do:)

Ugh - why do people persist in believe what they -want- to when facts show otherwise?

Disney has agreed to cooperate with the train service. They have agreed to attach their internal service to it, and further, they want to operate the station. They will not make it harder to use then the -current- Magical Express.

Magical Express will cease to exist when the train becomes operational, replaced by the train.

And lines? What lines? It's physically part of the airport, not some nearby station to shuttle to - you walk to it the same way you do the parking garage, car rental, or Disney buses now. From there: It's a train. You don't wait in line for trains. You simply show your boarding pass and enter the pier and possibly wait - less then ten minutes based on the train frequency - for the next train to arrive and board. Most likely there will be a train waiting for you.

Luggage? Handled the same as Magical Express now, but also probably put into a train car dedicated to the bulk of luggage transport - just like how Magical Express has luggage on it's own truck from the airport. OMG, there are even airports like Denver that move people's luggage on trains once it's checked to load/unload all day. Trains with people on them going from point A to point B.

Then you arrive at WDW station and transfer to the internal system. Buses to certain stops, certainly, but Disney has the option of extending other systems to the station too - it's 5 years out and Disney hasn't commented on what they plan to do with the station they intend to OWN and OPERATE.

Sometimes the mindset of people on this forum just baffles me.

Good luck taking Magical Express buses in 2015 when they cease to exist.

I guess the contract that was signed back in 2009 extending the Magical Express service until the end of 2016 means nothing.

The train won't be running tomorrow, but the contract you mention will be running out. Have you seen this contract? What are the terms to dissolve it?

"Most likely there will be a train waitnig for you"
Somehow I don't think it will work quite that way----

2015 or 2016 expiration of ME..won't matter a bit to me as I'll still be using my car and doubtless getting to OKW FASTER than the train/bus/shuttle combination that's likely to exist.

Lines? What lines? Do you really expect a train to be there every 10 minutes? I bet the train will only come every 30 minutes or on the hour. By then there will be plenty of people waiting in line. There is a need for a train from the Orlando airport to WDW. They could probably fill a train every 20 min but the train would then need to circle from WDW back to the Airport....but for the train to then continue to Tampa at a cost of further milllions is a waste of money.

I actually think he's right. There won't be any lines... Because it won't exist, and if it is finally, eventually completed there still won't be any lines because it will be overpriced and underused.

Just like there is no wait for the Monorail and that only goes around a lagoon.
