Ok....I think I'm gonna take the plunge and at least get my room only set....I'll worry about package or not, dining or not, later....I'm feeling anxious about just being sure I have a room! We're going Jan and Feb. But....questions, questions, questions!
1. I'm not positive on our arrival date....we'll be using airline miles so I don't know if I can leave on a Saturday, not sure what they'll allow, and can't get a straight answer when calling Southwest because "those flights are not available for booking yet, you'll have to wait to see what is available.". Duh....can't even get a "do you ever allow miles on weekends?"
So....if I make a room only reservation for Saturday....but then can't get a flight until Monday.....I'm assuming it's easier to take days OFF my reservation than it would be to book Monday and then try to backdate it in a few months with the airlines comes out with flights, right? Any penalties for cutting off the first day or two of a reservation?
2. If I'm reading other people's posts correctly it sounds like they bill your credit card for one night at the time you make the reservation, right? Life has a way of sneaking up on us and we've had a few vacations that had to cancel due to life....so how far in advance would I be able to cancel this and get that deposit back....or is that non-refundable? What other rules are there about changes, canceling, later adding on discounts (AAA or AP or whatever else comes down the pike)....and/or adding dining plan and tickets if that package hasn't been ruined by changes, lol???? If they decimate the dining plan with the rumored changes, and/or raise the room rates on weekends or whatever else awful changes are rumored....we may decide to just stay off site and eat more offsite.
3. I've started seeing people writing about getting calls upselling to a better hotel......I know it's the luck of the draw, but should I be booking a lesser hotel in the hopes they'll upgrade me to what I'd prefer (moderate)? Or just stick with what I want knowing my chances are slim anyway.
4. This last question is hard to explain....I've read about the extras that booking through AAA can get you, parking, pins, preferred fast passes, etc. If later in the year when the AP rates are released they aren't better than AAA, can I change my booking from WDW to AAA to get those? I've read several people being charged cancel fees from AAA so I don't want to start with them, but at what point can I not do that anymore?
Sheesh.....this is more complicated than some of the multi-zillion dollar multi-corporation deals I've brokered, lol. I almost feel like the ins and outs of WDW should be left to the wheelers and dealers, I'm no match!
