Do you have dessert after dinner? Did you when you were a kid? I never had dessert as a regular thing after dinner as a kid or as an adult. Dessert to me was a treat saved for meals at restaurants and only then, occasionally.

nooo, never , a desert is something you have late at night, just cause

Growing up, dessert was the last course of dinner. It surprised me when I found out other families didn't have dessert like that...it was more of a treat!
I would guess that's why I love desserts and have somewhat of a weight issue. Thanks Mom! :rolleyes2

Nope, not here. Only on special occasions, or when we are at Disney. Now we have been known to stop by some place for ice cream or something while we are out. We have recently discovered a new yogurt shop with toppings galore. :goodvibes

When I was a kid we usually had dessert after dinner. Something very small. I rarely eat dessert now though and we never order dessert at restaurants. The kids and DH will have dessert after dinner most nights. Sometimes it's a popsicle or small bowl of ice cream. Sometimes it's a slice of homemade pie or a cookie. Most of the time though dessert for the kids is a piece of fruit. Maybe a handful of berries, an apple, peach or pear ect. Often I will serve a smoothie with dinner and that "counts" as their dessert.

No, we usually only have dessert on special occasions...like holidays or birthdays. Sometimes we will have a dessert just because there's a recipe that I wanted to try, but that's somewhat rare. Even then I don't really see it as a part of the meal because we mostly just eat it whenever, not necessarily after dinner. I'm usually too full from my dinner to have dessert, anyway.

Desserts, for us, are reserved for special occasions, and my family didn't really do desserts after dinner when I was growing up, either.

We didn't have dessert growing up, except at holidays or if we had guests for dinner. Rarely had dessert in restaurants, and still don't; I'm usually too full from supper to enjoy the dessert. I am also not a huge dessert fan; I'd rather have an appetizer, if I am going to order food other than the main meal.

We don't usually have dessert here at home, except for holidays and guests. I guess we aren't big sweet people. DD made a cherry pie for Father's Day and half of it is still in the fridge (ewww, I know... waiting to remember to put it in the trash on trash day!). It's always that way with cake, pie, etc. Cookies and brownies take forever to finish. If we eat anything, it's gonna be ice cream, and even then, we usually lose interest before finishing the half-gallon.

We did not have dessert all the time growing up. Only on special occasions and holidays.

I do give my kids dessert every night now, but it is usually something like fruit, apple sauce or yogurt. Once in a while it is a cookie or treat though.

Nope, never, not even in restaurants.
I'd say cake and ice cream on a birthday was the only time we had dessert.

We still don't have dessert immediately following our meal, but we do have an evening snack an hour or two later fairly often.

Same here. My extended family has quite a sweet tooth, so I grew up with dessert, as did my mom, and her mom....

We used to eat it immediately after dinner growing up. Since becoming an adult and having my own family, we now have "snack" around 8 pm, and it's not always every night. And it's not always something major. Sometimes it will be cookies, or ice cream, but sometimes a bowl of cereal, or my DS13 prefers to have a bowl of popcorn. I've been known to have some hot chocolate in the winter, or a handful of chocolate chips just to satisfy the urge for something sweet.

This is how it was in DH's house growing up. They had a fresh baked dessert every single night. Even during the summer, his mom made something every single day.

In my family, we didn't do desserts, except when company was over or on holidays. Mom would make brownies or a cake, but it was never served as part of the meal. It was always later in the evening.

When I was growing up we had dessert every night. My mom always made pudding, jello or rice krispy treats. Plus she was a cake decorator, so every time she made a cake for a client she would make a small extra one for me and my brother. :goodvibes

Now we have dessert almost every night at home and if we go out to eat- at least DD and I do! DD9 and I always say at the beginning of every meal "make sure you leave room for dessert!". Dessert is the most important part of any meal to us. If we are at home we have ice cream, frozen yogurt or a fruit pop. If we are out to dinner, we get whatever we like. For me it is creme brulee, for DD cheesecake and DH will sometimes get dessert if he isn't too full from dinner. For some crazy reason he likes meat better than dessert!

I didn't really eat dessert as a kid. Every once in a while, my sister & I would make a cake or cupcakes so we'd have that for a few days. There were usually cookies & ice cream in the house but I wasn't a big sweet eater back then.

Now it's mostly for special occasions and once in a great while if we go out to dinner.

We don't have dessert right after dinner, but we do usually have something sweet during the evening (it can even be fruit). It doesn't have to be a whole lot of something, just enough to satisfy the sweet tooth. I never order dessert at a restaurant.

My mom always had fresh fruit, pudding, jello with real whipped cream-something. We don't do that here. Dessert is a rarity served with a special occasion -never pudding, fresh fruit or jello, lol! That was the 50's!!!

Every night, growing up, usually ice cream except on special occasions fancier desserts. Sometimes on Friday nights we would have waffles and ice cream for dinner- usually while watching the "Brady bunch." Good times. In my family dessert is a course, that you don't leave room for, you make room for.

No dessert after the meal, but often a sweet snack later in the evening. Last night we stopped for ice cream on the way home after eating dinner out.

I don't really remember a nightly dessert after dinner. But I do remember my parents sending us with a $5 bill, down to the corner candy store a few times a week, with a list of goodies to get for each of them and then each of us kids (3 of us) could keep the change to get what ever we wanted. Looking back now, I'm thinking THIS is where my weight issues started. :headache:

As for my household, we don't do the nightly dessert thing even though as soon as my hubby swallows his last bite of dinner, he's looking for something sweet. This is when he disappears to his mother's house and grabs some M&M's or something.

I do make brownies or a cake maybe a few times a month. But that's about it. And we don't go to restaurants all that often (usually do take out) but we never order dessert at the restaurant.

I am shocked. For us, it's meal, then ALWAYS dessert (except after breakfast). Just a normal thing. I have always liked dessert best.

Growing up, my mom had a cookie drawer that we could help ourselves to all the time. And we did. It was ALWAYS stuffed with Oreos or snack cakes or whatever. I still polish off a half-gallon of ice cream every week.

Not one of us has ever been overweight.

I attribute that to two things. Regular exercise, and we never eat anything at 7PM.
