I am in charge of making dessert for our Fire Department's monthly meeting. I need to make something to serve 30-40 people. I don't want to do the normal boring chocolate chip cookies or brownies. But I'm not a gourmet cook by any stretch of the imagination, either.

So, do you have a favorite crowd-pleasing dessert recipe? Please share. Thanks!

What about an ice cream, get ice cream and several toppings, if you want to get fancier you could bake plain brownies or chocolate chip cookies to go with it.

How about cupcakes? You could do chocolate and vanilla ones, and use assorted icings (homemade or store bought).

One of the easiest and prettiest desserts I do is to cut or tear a pre-made angel food cake into pieces and layer it in large cake pans - you can buy the tinfoil one at any $1 store. I then make several boxes of lemon or chocolate pudding and dollop that over the top kind of spreading it around. I add another layer of angel food cake.

Cover the whole thing with Cool-Whip and then take Marashino (sp?) cherries with the stems and place them on the top in rows so that there is at least one per piece. Drizzle a little bit of cherry juice and a bit of chocolate syrup on top if you wish.

It looks beautiful and tastes good too.

If you are doing this for a large group you may want to make 2 different kinds so they can have a choice. :)

The suggestions of an ice cream sundae bar was a great one, people love this! But you need storage for the ice cream. :) A crockpot works great for hot fudge.

Some type of trifle maybe? Chocolate cake, choc pudding, cool whip & health bar is delish!!! We drizzle our cake with a little kahlua.

I would do cobbler. You could make different kinds--peach, blueberry, raspberry, apple. with ice cream on the side.

best dessert EVER and its super simple....
Sopapilla Cheesecake
3 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
1 1/2 cups white sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 (8 ounce) cans crescent roll dough

1/2 cup melted butter
1/2 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 cup sliced almonds
Directions
1.Preheat an oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
2.Beat the cream cheese with 1 1/2 cups of sugar, and the vanilla extract in a bowl until smooth. Unroll the cans of crescent roll dough, and use a rolling pin to shape the each piece into 9x13 inch rectangles. Press one piece into the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish. Evenly spread the cream cheese mixture into the baking dish, then cover with the remaining piece of crescent dough.
3.Drizzle the melted butter evenly over the top of the cheesecake. Stir the remaining 1/2 cup of sugar together with the cinnamon in a small bowl, and sprinkle over the cheesecake along with the almonds.
4.Bake in the preheated oven until the crescent dough has puffed and turned golden brown, about 45 minutes. Cool completely in the pan before cutting into 12 squares.

When we have special occassions we make chocolate dipped marshmallows like the ones you get at WDW.

I buy lollipop sticks from the craft store you can buy them in 50 or 100 count size. I buy white chocolate and milk chocolate chips from the supermarket. I dip the marshmallows in white chocolate and then role in crushed chocolate grahams. The second set gets dipped in the milk chocolate and then rolled in graham crackers.

This is a really easy dessert and my kids love to help make these. :)

The Tiramisu recipe I use is really good and pretty easy to make for a much bigger crowd since it doesn't require any baking or cooking or anything. If you'd like the recipe let me know

DMickey28~Could you please post your recipe???

Can I have the recipe DMickey? I love Tiramisu.

Here is a family favorite that is so simple, but delicious. I get compliments on it every time I make it:

Chocolate Eclair Dessert

1 lrg box & 1 small box instant vanilla pudding
5 cups milk (use whatever amount is necessary on the boxes of pudding)
8 oz Cool Whip
1 box graham crackers
1 container chocolate frosting

Make pudding and then add Cool Whip.
Layer the bottom of a 9X12 casserole pan with graham crackers.
Pour 1/2 of the pudding mixture over the layer of graham crackers.
Add another layer of graham crackers.
Put the remaining pudding mixture over this layer.
Add one last layer of graham crackers.
Remove the lid from the frosting and soften for approx. 30 seconds in the microwave (enough so that it will slowly pour out of the container).
Pour it over the last layer of graham crackers and spread evenly.
Refrigerate overnight.

Peach Dump Cake! (lots of recipes around the net, but here's one..)

You'd probably have to make seveeral pans to serve that many, but its so good! Serve with vanilla ice cream. :)

One of my favorites, and the favorites of my group, is chocolate cupcakes with a chocolate chip cream cheese filling.

Take a boxed cake mix, and fill each cupcake paper about half full. Mix a block of cream cheese with one egg, a splash of vanilla, and a bag of chocolate chips. Drop a tablespoon of the cream cheese mixture into the cupcake. Bake per the directions on the cake mix. When they are done serve as is or sprinkle the tops of powdered sugar. It's creamy and chocolately and most everyone loves chocolate cupcakes.

Do you crush the graham crackers or lay them our whole?

:thumbsup2 Thats the one that was in the link in my post! It must be popular everywhere lol:goodvibes I have never done it with the frosting on top, I will have to try that. I have also heard of melting choc. chips and spreading it over the top for a hard choc. topping. Yum!

Lay them out, like, well, lasagna noodles - except, apparently, start with the cracker (noodle) layer, not the sauce (filling) layer.

And don't forget, graham crackers come in chocolate flavor, too. Not the chocolate-coated ones - those won't get the result you want.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions! I think we have a winner:
