Dessert Party - Star Wars OR Frozen?

Months ago when I was doing my planning for our upcoming trip (December 30 to January 6), I had my heart set on the Frozen dessert party so that we could get the Illuminations seating plus FEA. I have a five year old daughter who loves princesses, AND I have a seven year old boy who is into the typical boy stuff and who desperately wants to do Test Track. I thought that if I did Frozen I could then do the TT FP+ since I would have had the FEA lined up.

And then the Frozen dates came out and there were no dessert parties for our dates the first week of January so I booked the Star Wars party and did my FP for Epcot with FEA for our Tier 1 pass. I had myself excited about the dessert party and knew my son would be thrilled with it. And then I saw that they had added Frozen party dates during our week and now I am second guessing myself.

What would you do? Our plans for Epcot are to do Akershus breakfast at 8:25, then head straight to TT (note that single rider is not an option for us) and then to Soarin.

I should also let you know that after our week at WDW we are heading on a Star Wars Day at Sea 7-day Disney cruise so will get some good Star Wars time in then.

Thanks :)

Test track is actually a good possibility to get as a same-day FP. I haven’t done the Frozen party but I did the Star Wars one and it was great-lots of selection and fun desserts. From reviews and photos it doesn’t seem like Frozen is as good food wise.

So, I would stick with the way you have it, but maybe if you get over to TT and there is a long line, you can delay until later afternoon?

If you are doing Star Wars Day at Sea, I would do the FEA dessert party. We just did the Star Wars dessert party and it was great (the sound is quite loud and a bit distorted from the viewing location however), but you will have Star Wars fireworks and tons of character interaction on the boat. FEA will offer you an opportunity to do something different.

Having been at both parties dozens and dozens of times, guest feedback during and after the parties has been much more favorable towards the FEA party. Being complete neutral, I can understand why.

The SW party does have a few negatives. The party venue is dark and if attendance is on the high side, it can feel crowded. A major complaint is that there is no seating. Unlike the FEA party, tables are not preassigned and arriving early in order to get a prime table is advisable. The recent change to a different viewing area has not been well received. The previous area was much better.

It's not that the SW party is bad, it's that the FEA party is better. Unless they're SW fans, IMO the FEA party is a better choice for most guests.

We did both on our last trip (no kids and not huge SW or Frozen fans). The FEA party was worth much more for what we paid IMO. Not having to FP FEA, guaranteed seating for fireworks, leaving once the crowds were lighter, not having to plan around FEA... versus SW which the food was good but was very hectic and lots of little kids running around bumping into you, spilling food and drinks, the view of the fireworks was bad. We were wayyyy too close to the Chinese theater to be able to see everything. The SW fireworks felt (except for 1-2 minutes) like a giant trailer to get you excited for the next movie). And I feel like with how little there is to do at HS right now, you can get there a little early to get a good spot. If it were me, I would switch.

Man, I just booked Star Wars for our trip. Did they move the viewing area again? I read a review that mentioned a new area and how the viewing was perfect. Is it not here anymore? https://www.easywdw.com/easy/blog/r...side-launch-bay-at-disneys-hollywood-studios/

We just went on Dec. 20. The viewing area was on a raised area (where Mickey's sorcerer's hat used to be) right in front of the Chinese Theater. It was nice that we could sit during the show, but the sound was quite loud (so a little distorted) and, while we could see the show and the fireworks, you really couldn't see some of the lighting effects being that close. Still enjoyable, but really loud.

Yup, we were there the 1st week of November, and we were up in a raised area around the palm trees in those photos.

It's been in two locations, in front of one of the projection towers and now on the raised surface.
