Dessert Party Black Out dates for April 2010

How many guests are you having? Is it possible for you to book an Illuminations cruise for that night?

Should be about 16-18 adults and 3-4 kiddos. I was looking into Illuminations cruises but the boats seem to hold smaller #s of people like 17 max I think.

When are all your guests going home? I know it is not your actual wedding day, but maybe do the DP on Sunday as a goodby party for them. Depending on when they are getting there you could also do Thursday as a Welcome Party but I would not wear my wedding dress before the wedding. Maybe just a pretty white dress.

I think it is at MK. I was told I could not do bridal portraits after the 15th due to grad day set ups.

Grad nights for 2010 are April 23-24th, April 30-May 1st at MK. I am doing my bridal portraits in the middle of those dates and was told that they work around the grad night stuff. I probably won't get the shots in front of the castle most people get because the stage will be set up but I am okay with that. I am more concerned about the fact that part of Fantasyland will probably be under construction due to the changes they are making to it so that could mean the back of the castle can't be used for portraits either if that is what they are working on (which is supposed to be one of the first stages of construction). If that is the case I think I'll ask if they'd be willing to do more shots elsewhere in the park (carousel, teacups, haunted mansion, big thunder mountain, etc).
If you want to do a dessert party the night after your wedding I would call and book fast. I booked mine at the one year mark and my first two choices of location were already taken. Maybe there are a lot of conventions that weekend?

I was just told that we could not have a DP on the night of our wedding at EPCOT, out wedding is Friday April 16th, my planner did say that we could have it the night before. So now I am trying to decide what I would like to do. SCP is available the night of my wedding, so I am leaning towards that for a DP.

I'd do SCP, it's what I'm planning any way

I agree, I would go with Sago Cay. I have it the night before you....I'll even leave some :wizard: for you!

I feel your pain, I was soooo disappointed to learn dessert parties were blacked out the night of our wedding. We decided to do SCP too! Hopefully grad nite fireworks are good, because that is all that is avail to see that night.

I do love the look of Sago Cay, so I am really leaning towards that.

BoardwalkBride, thanks for saving some for me :lmao:

Now I guess I need to decide about dinner, my first thought was to eat somewhere near the boardwalk, and go to EPCOT after dinner, now I am thinking I should probably eat at one of the MK resorts. My biggest problem is I will have up to 20 guests and would like to keep dinner to $1,000 or less.

I will up updating my PJ soon, haven't had a lot of time lately when I do I will also pose this question there.

Thanks for all the great advice!

We have the same number of guests and the same budget and we are having dinner at O'hana.

Thanks Sarah, Congrats on your upcoming wedding, I look forward to hearing about it when you get back.

Make sure you double check with your planner to confirm that the grad nite fireworks will be shown during the timeframe your reception is going on. Since grad nite is a late night event the fireworks show might be later than normal fireowrks would be. You can probably find a video of them from 2008 or earlier on youtube somewhere if you want to see the type of show you'd be seeing. Sorry Epcot is blocked out for you. I would be so disappointed too!

According the the calendar, there will not be fireworks on the 23rd or 24th. I hope that doesn't affect anyone :wizard:

Having dessert party during the Grad Nite fireworks was suggested by our planner. However, they are NOT at the normal wishes time. Grad nite fireworks are at midnight. Sooo we had to choose a later ceremony time, and dinner time, and then dessert party will be at 11:30. I was disappointed at first, but the more I thought about it: it is a similar time frame to if I would have had a wedding at home. Also our guest will be able to spend the morning in the parks if they choose since the ceremony is not until 5:00. This is totally not what I had in mind when I was planning this wedding, but I am trying to see the positive side of it all.

I think what the calendar means is there are no Wishes fireworks but there will most likely be Grad Nite ones if those are Grad Nite nights. Those are just regular fireworks, no story or soundtrack to it, they usually just play music while they're going on.

That is good that they are still willing to accommodate people even with the time change of the fireworks. I think that would be really neat to have a dessert party that late....kinda like New Years Eve!
