Despicable Me & Transformers - simulator rides?

We're so excited to be heading to Universal Studios soon. Despicable Me and Transformers are both new to us. Are they simulator rides? Are there any other Universal or Disney rides that they compare to to give us an idea? DH has severe motion sickness and may not be able to ride... TIA!

Was just there on Monday, loved Dispicable Me. But, would bother somebody with motion sickness. I had a bit of a headache afterwards and daughter felt a bit nauseous. But it was still great. Did not do Transformers, but hear that it was the same type of simulator ride.
I would equate it to the Star Wars rise at Hollywood Studios.

I haven't done Despicible Me, but did Jimmy Neutron. It's my understanding that there's not much difference other than a different film. I had a child under 40" with me so I had to sit in the non-moving seats. I did not have any motion sickness and do feel sick on many rides - but I was in the seat that did not move. So, that's another option - try the non-moving seat first and see how he does with that. I can handle Star Tours, but I need to look away a lot and wear my sea bands. There's parts of Soarin' where I need to look away from the screen too. I did feel that I missed out a little by not sitting in the moving seats, but still enjoyed it.

Transformers is like Spider-Man but more intense. Despicable me is like the Simpsons.

Transformers is not like Star Tours at all, it is just like Spiderman, but if you've never done Spiderman then that's a difficult comparison. Star Tours and Despicable me are both stationary units, Transformers is not, the ride moves and interacts with ginormous 3D screens. It does cause some motion sickness in sensitive people.

For me, those rides are on the low end of motion sickness inducers. Has your husband tried taking Bonine the night before and in the morning to help with the motion sickness?

Transformers is like Spiderman.
Despicable Me uses the same theatre and ride mechanism as Jimmy Neutron.

A lot the rides at uni and IOA made me feel sick and I can normally handle the fast paced, high action, spinning, coaster rides with no issues. I am sure it's the screens that does it - transformers, spider man and potter all made me want to jump off the ride and lay down for a few minutes but when I closed my eyes or wasn't looking at the screens I felt fine.

DM wasn't that bad, I quite enjoyed that but then I play the iPad game so was neat to see the ride. My friend has travel sickness and she felt ill on Simpsons and DM as well as spider, potter, hulk and transformers so it's really a personal thing; each person is different.

I tried Bonine this year and had my best visit. Transformers and Spider Man do not usually make me ill. Simpsons and DM usually do, but I've learned to close my eyes in certain scenes. HP is going to get me every time, but I have to ride it once. The secret for me is to allow recovery time between rides. With onsite express it's easy to overdo it.

I have severe motion sickness myself and I take Meclizine to keep it in check. Nothing really helps much but it helps me mentally so I take it.

For someone who has motion sickness Despicable Me, Transformers, Spiderman and Simpsons will make him very queasy. I end up closing my eyes on every one of those when we ride it.

I only ride them because my husband likes them.

For some reason I can usually keep my eyes open on Forbidden Journey (Harry Potter IOA)

Tell him just to try them and at the first bit of trouble just close his eyes. At least that way you can enjoy the ride.

I usually take a half-dose of the "Less Drowsy" Dramamine, and have never tossed any cookies at Universal...(and I'll ride anything that they can strap my big booty in!)

If in doubt, the D-Me ride's stationary seat is a good option.

awww man.. huge D-Me fan here and was so looking forward to the ride, but now a days Star Tours always upsets my tummy and DH as well... guess I can try some motion sickness medicine, never have before, but worth a shot!

Thanks everyone! It sounds like dh won't be able to do Transformers or Despicable Me. He can't do Star Tours or Spiderman anymore. Spiderman used to be his favourite ride too. He has tried gravol, bonine, sea bands, the patch, etc..... and nothing works.

Someone mentioned a non-motion seat in Despicable Me. How does that work? Are these seats available every time? He may consider doing that. If he can easily find a non-motion seat, he would go. If he has to draw too much attention to himself in requesting this seat, he won't do it. I'll do Transformers on my own and will see if dh can handle it....but if it's like Spiderman, I have my doubts. Knowledge is power, so I thank you for all the input.

Someone mentioned a non-motion seat in Despicable Me. How does that work? Are these seats available every time? He may consider doing that.

The seats are just in front of the moving cars and you just tell the TM that you need stationery seating.....there`s only ever been one or two people maximum using them whenever we have ridden so there`s plenty of room.

Hope he does it and enjoys it
