Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem Bound to Disappoint?

Truthfully, I don't understand why the general public is so excited for this beyond the love for the movie.

Here's why....

As far as I'm aware, I remember reception to Nicktoons Blast (the previous ride that DEMM is taking the place of) to be something that most people put on their "skip" list or labeling it as a ride that they will hit up if they have enough time because it wasn't anything that remarkable.

Now I'm saying this because of the public, but I for one enjoyed Nicktoons and the Hanna Barbera Ride (if one can remember back that far), but many times I feel like the exception when I say that. I guess my question is, besides the 3-D upgrade with a couple new effects, it will essentially be the same type of ride (a giant auditorium with a screen where the chairs move).

I'm sure I will love it as many younger kids will too, but for everyone else (meaning the people on this thread and other older visitors) will it be that big of a deal?

Yep, it's a huge deal for me.. I only ride the rides made like that. My favs are spiderman, simpsons, men in black, cat n hat, ET... you get the picture. so the fact that Jaws is gone(another fav) and Jimmy gone, my list of rides is shrinking.. My son will ride most anything but my husband and I like laid back family rides..
still hoping for some soft openings next week while I am there.. wonder how long they will let our family in matching shirts stand there waiting..

I see people somewhat excited for a new attraction based on a popular movie, nothing more. If by public you mean posters here, we are not a representative sample of the public at large and sure you see a little over excitement here as we're theme park nerds. If by public you mean John Q. Parkgoer, I see nothing of the sort.

The park desperately needs family rides and this should nicely fit the bill. Who doesn't love the minions???

It probably will be very similar to Hanna Barbera and Jimmy Neutron,but that's not a bad thing as I liked those rides.In a preview shot of the new Despicable Me ride I think I saw a shot of Gru and the girls riding a roller coaster like in the Hanna Barbera ride,I guess if that is actually a scene in the ride that will make 3 simulators in Universal's history where you ride a rollercoaster.

There's a thread started not that long ago who basically said the new lagoon show was a huge disappointment. If someone can be let down by that surely there are going to be people "disappointed" with Minion Mayhem no matter how good it is.

The outside looks insanely good, with the wit and humor of the ride already showing up with the propaganda-like posters. The Despicable Me brand is really strong with some very intelligent/funny people in charge of it. The ride is going to have state of the art digital projection which will be a tremendous leap over anything that has been in that area before. Even the gift shop seems like a pretty neat place to walk through.

But again, there's some people out there who aren't impressed by the Wizarding World and will be the first ones with some sort of complaint over Minion Mayhem.

In our household..here are the facts:

I may...or may not like the Minion Hayhem...
My 4 non-ASD kids may...or may not like it either...
BUT...
One's thing that is an absolute sure thing-my son WILL LOVE IT!
He has poured his emotional soul into his prepping for this, and he is about to drive us all stark, raving looney! I'm gonna pony up the extra $ and upgrade his park ticket to AP, mainly for the opportunity to get the early hour for the ride, plus stay on site...
Most expensive ride ever.
(Ok...he is excited about the new parade, new show, new character meal...so it ain't ALL D-ME!)

PLEASE!...OPEN UP THIS RIDE ASAP UNIVERSAL HONCHOS!

I really liked Despicable Me so I'm really looking forward to this. It's really nothing more than that for me. I may actually only ride it once if it makes me as seasick as Jimmy Neutron did.

As long as it doesn't have the 'Birdie Song' at the end like Jimmy Nutron did, it'll be fine by me!
