Desperately seeking dim sum

I posted this over at the Attractions/Strategies board but then realized I should've asked ya'll over here!!

My DH loves Dim Sum and used to eat it all the time in Chinatown when we lived in the Los Angeles area. Since we moved we cannot find any good dim sum and he needs his "fix".

I was hoping someone would know of a good place to get it either in the parks, DTD, the resorts, or anywhere close to WDW. I would really appreciate any info.

Ming Court on I-Drive near the Mercado. I've been going there for years and it's awesome! (I think dim sum is only a lunch thing though)

I believe Nine Dragons in EPCOT does dim sum, but I've never had it so I can't comment on how it is..

We've done dim sum at the Nine Dragons and it was very good. However, there was a limit to how many items you could order. We used to do dim sum in LA too, and you couldn't get us to stop!

The problem is that all the places (except one) that serve Dim Sum in the Orlando area you have to order from a menu. A few years ago I checked with the restaurant critic of the Orlando Sentenial and he referred me to Chan's at 1901 East Colonial. I have eaten there several times. They have Dim Sum on carts and it is seven days a week at lunch. A few times when Judy and I went we found that of maybe 15 tables seated ours was the only one with no Asians.

Yeah I am so glad this thread was started, we do it each time we go to NYC in Chinatown and then we jones for it for the rest of the year....(trust me its not in central Virginia either) Thanks to all that answered, we will try them at Christmas.

They actually limit you at Nine Dragons? That's unbelievable!

We'll have to try Ming Court as well - I had completely forgotten about it. We've been visiting the dim sum buffet in north Pinellas when we visit my family. $6 for lunch - dangerous! It's called Kwanda, in Palm Harbor, for any that live/visit there.

Are you sure theylimit you and just didn't run out? My Dh and I always get multiple orders of dimsum and never limited. Dim sum is all the kids and i eat .

No, they didn't run out. We could each only choose three. It really wasn't enough. Maybe they charge for every three, and we could have chosen another three if we told them we wanted to pay for it? But the dim sum lunch was for only three pieces.

This was our experience - we only went the one time.

Really? Even the Ming Court referrenced here? If that is the case then we'll try Chan's instead, as that sounds much more authentic. Part of the fun of traditional dim sum meals is checking out the variety of offerings on the carts that pass by and getting the item right away. No fun ordering off a menu!

And thanks for starting this thread. We had planned to go to Nine Dragons for dim sum but now I plan to cancel the ADR and go to somewhere more authentic with more of a selection and possibly less expensive.

mommaU4, the closest Dim Sum fix I know of in Michigan isn't in MI at all! (I know you were asking for FLA, but if you want some a little closer to home.) If you make it down to South east MI go a little farther. There are a number of good Dim Sum places in Ontraio. Not sure diretions right now, but I can get them for you if you want.

A few years ago my best friend and I decided it was time for an outing (we have strange outings) this time it was to Canada for Dim Sum. We loaded the lot of us in her mini van ( Hubbies and then 3 year old kids) and headed south. We had a great time, checked out the flower gardens and really enjoyed ourselves. On the way home we got stuck going over the bridge and had to wait forever. The biggest problem was my friend and I were both pregnant (7 and 6 months) and had to pee so bad. The man at the boarder didn't belive BOTH women where pregnant. I think he thought we were some kind of cult or strange marriage family situation.

DH just corrected me - we were able to choose three things, and each of those had a few pieces. It still wasn't the same as ordering as much as you want off the carts. But it was very yummy - so if you planned to be in Epcot for lunch I would recommend it. Just wanted to give a heads up to the difference.
