Desperate mattress suggestion

I love my Travel Lite trailer but the queen foam mattress is the single most uncomfortable thing I've EVER laid on. So....I told DH that if we're spending 12days on the road in that trailer while in Disney, I HAVE to have a mattress to sleep on. The trouble is, I can't find any! We have 1 Camping World in our area and they don't have any mattresses out to look at much less test out. They're all rolled up in a box (how does an innerspring mattress roll up anyway ). I've found a couple on the internet but I'm hesitant to buy without testing out or at least getting someone's recommendation. Does anyone have any advice to give me? Recommendations?

The mattress store down the street from where I work told me he could order most of his "house" line of mattresses in an RV size, I believe he said in the Queen that it was 6 or 8 inches shorter. I dont think the big chains carry them. We bought oneof the house line of mattress from them a couple of years ago and it has held up real well.

we just installed select comfort in our just be sure of the sizes, there is a full queen and a short queen

You might try a foam topper, thats what we did for ours and it seems to work ok.

I am not sure where you are located in Michigan but we bought a custom mattress at a mattress store in Clinton Township. They had floor models in the showroom you could try out and they could order the mattress any size you wanted in 3" increments. It took about a week to get, the salesman said the mattress was made in Michigan so it did not take long. I think we paid around $500 for a nice pillow top mattress. The mattress that came with ours Class C was terrible. If you would like more info let me know.

We tried the foam mattress topper on the original mattress but that didn't help much. Some people swear by them though. I figure you spend so much on the trailer or motorhome, spend a few more bucks to sleep good.

Thank you for the replies. I've tried a foam topper and I wasn't impressed. I'll try a couple independant mattress places around here (southeastern Michigan area) and see if they can help me. I had no idea most could special order a mattress in a smaller size (my RV queen is like 3 inches smaller than traditional queen mattress). I appreciate all of your suggestions!

Whenever we got our tt that was the first thing we had to buy, we went and bought a queen size sleeper mattress and it fit perfectly . Ya, you need a good night sleep for disney or it's no fun.

We have the exact same problem. We have an Bantam, Trail Lite by R-Vision Hybrid and the mattress is pretty thick and looks like it would be great but it is horrible. We had a pop up with just the cheapy foam mattress and that was very comfy. I tried the memory foam and it did help a lot but it just isnt great.

I would suggest a Sleep Number bed. We have one in our house and it is great. We have had it for a long time now. When we need to replace our mattress in the motorhome that is what we will replace it with. (we are lucky, ours isn't too uncomfortable right now) They have a 30 day free home trial so if you didn't like it you wouldn't have to keep it. I think you need to go directly through Select Comfort for the free trial though. Their prices are just as good if not a little better than some other places you can order it from.

This is one of the most comfortable beds to sleep on, I have one that blows up into a queen size bed, everyone fights to sleep on it.

My DH is the ultimate "Princess and the Pea" type . I bought 5" queen sleeper sofa mattresses (seatingsystem.com)and paired them with a memory foam topper (overstock.com has great prices ). Now the beds in our Roo are as comfy as those at home .

A lot of people swear by Memory Foam (but not the cheap kind-it sucks) and get good deals at Overstock.com on it. We have the heated innerspring mattresses in our Flagstaff and love them. There's a custom mattress factory here and just out of curiosity when I read your post I called and they said they do make custom sizes so I'm guessing any mattress factory might but it's going to cost more than stock sizing for sure. Wouldn't Camping World open it to demonstrate for you? I can see not opening the Memory Foam in the 6 or 8" sizes because they're compressed so much and hard to decompress but usually they have samples. One thing about memory foam is it gets hot - not good if one of you has those lovely night sweats or something. (ahem) But they are starting to make a "cool top" version

One warning about using air mattresses- if they're the big ones (like AirBed) that's a lot of space that if it turns chilly, that air gets COLD- have friends that tried that, it was like sleeping on an icecubetray they said There are really nice closed cell (I think that's the term) foam self-inflating 4" pads from SportsmenGuide (self-deflating as well, get the brass nozzles) in full or queen width (or twin) we got some years back for adding onto a cabin beds and they are great. Kept them for "overnight grandkids". Hope you find something that works for you cause a good sleep is really really a good thing

We are in SE Michigan and we went to the IKEA in Canton (just up 275 from camping world) to get a queen size replacement. We have a 5'er with the shower in the bedroom, so gaining length for the new matress wasn't a problem (but a necessity since I am 6'-2"). IKEA has them all set out up stairs in the bedrooms section, and are relatively inexpensive. Foam or innersprung.

If you can live with an extra few inches of matress, go for it, the sheets fit better!! Just another idea for you!

Try the armored floor of an M113 sometime! But like OP says, memory foam is pretty good

My husband hates memory foam. He says it makes him sweat. So when we were looking for a new RV mattress memory foam was out. My husband is very picky and even he loves it.
