I have been looking for a P&S, to no avail. I tried and returned the Panasonic TZ5 and the Olympus 1010. I currently have an older Sony Cyber with no sports mode or image stabilization. The first 2 camers didn't take nearly as clear a picture as my old Sony. I have given up the idea that some company makes a decent zoom (7+) and will take a great picture.
So now I need direction as to what manufacture of a pocket sized P&S to look for. Help please we leave for Disnet on Oct. 7th and would like to have something nice for the trip. TIA.

If you thought the TZ5 was deficient then you might have a problem finding a compact size and high zoom camera that will satisfy you. You might have to move up to a slightly larger camera such as the Canon SX100, it's got image stabilization and 10x zoom and will fit in many pockets.

I'm looking for a good P & S too for times I can't bring my DSLR with me easily. I have a Kodak Easyshare 4megapixels that is 5 yrs old and takes pretty good pics except for indoors of course....the lens has been sticking a lot so I went to upgrade and bought the above mentioned Canon SX100. I HATE that camera :rotfl: Seriously-I'm so used to the great quality from my Nikon D50 and even my Kodak when it's used outside... the Canon pics are almost always blurry (when not using the zoom too!) Let's just say it was a very expensive mistake on my part now that I'm stuck with this $250 camera.... oh, and it eats batteries like crazy :confused3 :confused3 Wish I could tell you which one to buy.... I can however, tell you which one NOT to buy :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Good luck and let us know what you decide!!!! :thumbsup2

Agreed. I have the TZ5 and I love it! It totally did exactly what I needed it to do for me at WDW and with everything else. I was concerned about the speed factor when I'd go to Colts games but even then, my little TZ5 held it's own and got me fantastic shots. My favorite scene mode believe it or not is landscape. I get perfect results in many situations from that mode most of the time. I even shot Wishes in landscape mode, hand held, and got spectacular photos. I wonder what you didn't like about it?

Many people here love the Canon bridge camera line.

Here's an ongoing thread with lots of sample pictures. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1235546&referrerid=70088

BTW, technique often goes a long way toward getting good photos, regardless of brand. (Someone really good with cameras could probably get good shots out of anything.) Are you shooting on Auto primarily? Have you done any homework on how to improve your technique?

Canon S5IS is a great camera and I love the pic quality...:thumbsup2
