I'm pretty sure this is where we'll be staying for our trip in the spring, but I have some questions still. we are going off-season, probably mid-April or May.

1 - how can we get the best rate for them?

2 - do we want to request a certain area? we'll either be in a Parlor Suite A or C1.

3 - how soon should we book? also, what if the price decreases - will they adjust for us if we find a lower rate?

4 - we plan on leaving the parks at closing and driving to a restaurant for dinner afterwards, will we have a hard time getting out of the parking lot because of everyone leaving the parks at the same time?

that's all that I can think of for now. thanks so much for any help!! Michelle

I can tell you when we changed our booking for an earlier date it was CHEAPER bc my original date was when a convention was in town.

AND...we were in a C2 room & could see the fireworks from our bathroom areas. :thumbsup2

We're staying there again, it's so nice to have so much room when you have a family of 4! And affordable! ;)

Forgot #4 - Why drive? Everything is w/in walking distance. When we go we park & don't get in the car again until we leave! We walk to the parks, walk to meals. We did go to the coast 1 day & parking was so bad (a Saturday) we plan going to a new motel at the coast our last day - just for convenience sakes.

The best pricing I have found for them is on their webiste. And you should book as soon as you know your dates. There is no penelty for cancelling as long as you are outside of 48 (?) hours of your arrival date. Also, you will not be charged anything when making your ressie, not until you check in/out

Oh and if the price goes down, I dont know if they will adjust your price, but you could always book at the new rate and then cancell your first ressie.

thanks so far for the help!

I would love to not be able to leave, but dd has food allergies and eating is going to be a pain! most of the restaurants that we can eat at are several miles away. I'll also need to make a run to Whole Foods mid-week to re-stock our lunch food.

is it going to be impossible to get out of the parking lot if we wait until the park closes to leave?

Its not impossible to get out of the parking lot. But I do find that where desert inn is located u kind of have to detour just to be able to get in and out of their parking lot. I would recomend walking to and from disneyland from the desert inn. Its a nice short walk.

If you find a room you like book it ASAP. You can always cancel it. It's so close leave your can and walk, don't take your car

A $1 hold was placed on my account when I made ressie's this week for August.

just be patient and you can leave the parking lot. it IS a madhouse at closing along that whole street. desert inn seems to have a narrow drive way and that makes it worse. if it really stresses you, then go EARLY in the morning instead. but if you are patient someone will usually stop on the sidewalk to let you out, or just slowly-slowly-slowly ease your way and people will have to get out of your way. that sounds terrible, but it can be done when necessary.

sorry about the confusion! we'll definitely be walking to the parks! I want to leave the parks at closing and drive to restaurants for dinner. dd has food allergies and our eating options are pretty slim. we won't be walking to dinner at night (most of the restaurants we can eat at are 2 to 4 miles away from the motel). will we be able to get out of the motel parking lot for dinner? or will lots of people be blocking the parking lot because they are leaving DLR and walking to their motels?

Leaving the parking lot at any time is only a minor inconvenience. I would plan a few extra minutes to deal with both the pedestrian traffic and the car traffic. It isn't so horrible that you couldn't make the trek. As far as the reservations go, I have stayed here several times. They take AAA discounts. Also, I have made a reservation early and periodically checked and have found a lower rate. I just make the reservation again and then call to cancel the more expensive one. You can also request in the special comments to be put closer to the front of whathaveyou. The hotel is very slim and goes back off the street very far.

If you are interested though around the corner there is a hotel that has kitchens, I am not sure the name but it is on disney way. Maybe someone can help me out with the name.

Further proof DI&S rocks!!!

I wanted a room that was $119 online...it was gone. :( So I HAD to take the $139 room....& the reservation guy gave it to me for $129!!! :woohoo:

That seriously made my day. I got the room I REALLY wanted...for cheaper! :worship:

Michelleh1 - we too are driving in & stocking up on Whole Foods. We won't need to shop again but we have the same issues w/ eating there nonstop. As long as we ask tho (msg, shrimp & peanuts) we're typically ok.

that is great! the reason we are going when we are is to save the most $$ on our trip.

I read somewhere to always call the local number, not the 800 number - as you're more likely to be given deals. I guess it worked!! ;)

Also worked for my Costa Mesa reservation...they had like $110...it was $101 online, so they gave it to me for that price. I had double lodging luck today!!

I don't know about the AAA discount. You can call and ask that question. When my sister used it all she had to do was show her card at check in and they gave her the discount. So it must have been on top of her already reserved room from the website.
