When we planned our last vacation the suites just didn't end up working for our large party and we never stayed there. (One parking spot for suites? PUHLEASE ;) )

Anyway, the suites this time around is looking like it might be the most economical for us.

Has anyone stayed there? I know it's not anything special, but I'd like to hear any suggestions, advice, how your time was..whatever.

The breakfast..was it any good?

I just returned from a girls trip and there was 8 of us...I was in your boat also...we wanted to rent a suite but only one car allowed per room regardless of how many people are in that room! Ridiculous!

So we got two rooms connected to each other which worked out nice!

LOCATION!!!! The best by far!!! I'm definitely staying here again for that reason alone!

Rooms were clean, beds comfy..

Breakfast??? Horrific! It was so pathetic, and everyone around me looked so disappointed! There were oranges, white/wheat bread slices, one choice of a baked danish (cheese danish), cheerios or corn flakes, milk, juice and coffee...the WORST!!! But there is a dennys and an Ihop not too far from the hotel.

There is also a microwave, fridge, and coffee maker in the room, so you can bring your own breakfast.

Besides the gnarly 'breakfast' i'm for sure staying here again!

LOL! Yeah luckily this time we're all sharing a minivan but..ONE SPOT! hahahah

Thank you so much for your review! I wasn't expecting a ton out of breakfast (but I was holding on to some hope..LOL) I was spoiled with the free one at Desert Palms I think.

I am really happy that there will automatically be a fridge and microwave!

I know the parking is a pain, but come on, if everyone had 2 or 3 spots then where are late arrivers supposed to park? All of Harbor Blvd is like this. If you want plenty of parking and large cheap rooms go to Anaheim Plaza.

You can not beat the location, that is for sure.

The breakfast is not worth the time. We did one time bring micro bacon, egg beaters and got their toast, milk and juice. That was OK. But Denny's is right there too.

Putting the kiddos in a separate room was nice.

It's an older motel though, which is why we prefer HoJo's as their rooms are all much more updated.

We really like it in the winter because of the indoor pool which is really nice at Christmas. You are paying for location pretty much, because there are much nicer places farther away. If you are the kind of person who is an advance planner, ( like me) check room rates months in advance for best prices. I just booked a Christmas trip here for $69. Can't beat that.

My sister is getting a parlor suite for her family (not sure parlor suite) on our trip next week. I will ask her to take pics so you can see the rooms. Overall, sounds like a nice spot just based on the location.

We loved the Desert Inn and Suites!! Location is key! They have the kindest staff ever!
Here is a mapof the hotels.

Here are the Suite discriptions with pics and

The Parlor suite has a small livingroom with a fold out couch and tv and a door that can close it off from the main bedroom/bathroom. Plus it has in the main bedroom a tv, micowave and fridge. Then sink with the coffee pot is seperate from the shower/tub and john.

We had ressies here for our past trip, parlor A (I think) suite for $89/night. We ended up switching to Hojo though because we wanted an outdoor pool

We checked out the indoor pool and we passed. It looked kinda dirty...there were a lot of children in the pool at the time though...

Another positive to the hotel (which I didn't get a chance to check out) was the rooftop where you can view the fireworks from!

It's a great option for those who are tired to not miss out on the nightly activities!:thumbsup2

The biggest complaint I have with the Parlor suites, and I have stayed in an A suite twice now, is the beds are HARD. For some reason, the beds in the C-1s are fine. 2 weeks ago when I found out we were in the A suite, I threw in my sons memory foam topper as an afterthought. Thank goodness I did. I even wrote a review for Desert Inn on trip advisors, "sleep in the parking lot it's more comfortable" But the c-1 suites are fine, go figure :confused3

Desert Inn used to be our hotel of choice. We've only ever needed a standard room though. We've never used their breakfast as we always bring our own. I would not hesitate to stay there again if I could get a better rate than I can at HOJO.

Usually by the time we get back to the room at night we're so tired it doesn't matter how hard or soft the bed is. lol Then again, I travel with teenagers who could sleep anywhere without complaint. hehe

I was teasing a little ;) I fully understand there's just not room.

I do think that standard rooms should only have one spot, but for suites it's sorta just not gonna work for a lot of people. :thumbsup2

I still may try for hojo's, but I wanted to book this room at that rate before it got away..It really ended up super cheap for 6 of us!

We have stayed at Desert Inn for the last few years and were pretty happy with it. The location is by far the best!! The breakfast not that great, but it's free. The overall is a pretty good hotel for the price. The only reason we are switching to Desert Palms this year is because I was able to get it for $300+ cheaper for our 9 nights, and I am getting so paranoid of crossing Harbor Blvd. I hope the Desert Palms is just as good as Desert Inn. Have a great trip!!
BTW Emmers I really enjoyed reading your dream trip report WOW! You guys were lucky, It was really fun to read it all, and that they included your whole party for stuff. Last year we got free reserved seating at DCA lunch and free milkshakes as part of the Million Dreams, it was great! :yay:

Thanks for the review! It's hilarious to me tho, because I'm switching from Desert Palms because Desert Inn is cheaper for us this time and you're doing the opposite! LOL!! You'll like the Palms. The breakfast is great :) (as far as free goes anyway!)

And thanks! Yes, we're never 'lucky' and it was a HUGE surprise. It was totally 'needed' too at that point. And WOW! DCA lunch and milkshakes sounds awesome too!!! The YOAMD was a fantastic idea..I hope they do something similar every once in a while from now on! I loved watching people get dreamed!:goodvibes

Well, looks like I'll be staying at the Desert Inn! I'm not looking for anything fancy...just want it clean and close.

We just checked out of the Desert Inn yesterday morning after a 7 night stay! We had a C-2 suite (parlor, 2 bedrooms each w/2 queens and 2 bathrooms). The size of the room was perfect for the 5 of us (my husband, me, 2 boys - 10 and 13 and my sister). We put my sister in the smaller bedroom w/my 13 year old. DH, me and the 10 year old took the larger bedroom. Having 3 TVs was great during breaks. The boys could watch their cartoons or NASCAR racing in the parlor while the rest of us had quiet time in the bedrooms.

You can't beat the location right next to the crosswalk and the Cold Stone right next door is a nice place to stop after leaving the parks. We didn't use the breakfast much. We brought our own cereal, Pop Tarts, etc. and ate in the room. The fridge was turned up a little too high and our milk froze so we did get milk from the breakfast room until ours thawed. I used the microwave everyday for instant oatmeal.

We had a few little maintenance issues but they were always taken care of immediately. When we were moving in, the maintenance guy said he had to fix a loose toilet seat which he did quickly. Apparently, the housekeeper had notified him when she did the cleaning. We also told him one of the remotes needed batteries and he brought it back within 10 minutes in working order. Both toilets got clogged at some point (boys, what can I say?). We left a note on one before leaving one morning and called about the other the next day. Both times we returned to find everything working again.

I really didn't like the indoor pool. It's hot and humid in there and the place is like an echo-chamber for screaming kids! Some kids were screaming as loud as they could just for fun. I would let the boys swim while I sat and tried to read but finally I gave up. It was just too noisy. I would rather have an outdoor pool area that's a little bigger so people can spread out more. The only plus was that I didn't have to worry about the boys getting sunburns!

We ended up getting a great parking space in the carport area and we didn't have to move the car for 7 days. I did see people coming in late and having to park on the ramp to the garage or run into the office to ask where to park. We had stayed there before and knew we wanted a covered space for the week. We made sure to arrive before 3:00 p.m. last Sunday and there were just a few carport spaces free at that time.

I would consider staying here again. The room was a nice size and generally in good repair. The staff was friendly and efficient. The people trying to sell timeshares out front are extremely annoying but that's not the hotel's fault. For our next summer trip, we will probably find a place with an outdoor pool.

Hope this helps anyone who's considering staying at Desert Inn.:)
