Describe the FOTL Process, please!

My company is having a conference at the Royal Pacific Hotel in mid July and I'm taking the family with me (I'm working it, but I only have to work 2-4 hours a day, so it's a good deal...free vacation with no vacation time used!). I've read about the FOTL deal with the hotel key. Could someone tell me what that entails?

The impression I get is that it lets you use the "speed pass" line (or whatever Universal calls it) any time you wish, without having to get a speed pass ticket like everyone else does. So you basically have a shorter line to wait in, but you're still waiting with the other speed pass (and FOTL) people. Is this correct? How long is an average wait on a Saturday? For example, if a normal lines takes 1 hour, how long would the FOTL line take?

Thanks for any details!

We were there just a few weeks ago.

For the rides that have the Express Pass - it is similar to Disney's Fastpass. There are 2 lines. When you enter the Express Pass line, you just show them your room key. Only on 1 occasion did they "swipe" the card to see if it was valid. Otherwise, we just went right on in.

And just like Disney's fastpass, you are in line with other Express Pass people waiting to ride. Most rides we went on were 5 - 10 minute waits with Express Pass. The Dueling Dragons coaster was closer to 20 minutes.

Hope that helps.

Thanks. So my assumption was correct. The benefit is no waiting around for a specific time to ride that Express Pass would normally require. That's nice. I hate when I have to plan a day around those!

It makes for a very relaxing vacation. You don't have to plan anything. BTW - all rides and shows have an Express pass line except for P. Flyers in IOA. You can do a ton of rides in the morning, go back to the hotel for a swim during the hottest and busiest time of the day, and then return in the evening and do a ton more rides.

We have never waited more than 15 minutes for any ride. If a ride has a wait time of 60 minutes, your express pass line should be about 10 -15. Just show your room card at the entrance and they will motion you into the express pass line.

We just came back from Orlando; loved the FOTL passes, even for shows because they let the people with passes get their seats first. They only restricted the use of them on the Mummy and the Hulk. On those rides we could only use them once before 3:00 and then could use them as often as we wanted.
