I hope to get a description from someone on this ride. I read somewhere that someone felt nausiated after this and I want to make sure it won't be too intense for 10 and 6 year olds or myself for that matter. My dh has always dreamed of being an astronaut so I know he would want someone to ride it with him. What do you think?

It is a centrifuge simulator. You are inside a capsule with 3 other people. Before you get into the capsule, Gary Senece in a video and gives each person a job to do. When you get into the capsule, you buckle up and pull a harness down. Then a screen comes down in front of you. On the screen it looks like you are going to launch off into outer space. The whole ride starts spinning, but it is so fast that you only feel the g-forces pushing you back into your seat. Keep your head straight and don't close your eyes or you could get dizzy( I don't, but then spinning things don't bother me). For the rest of the ride you hear an announcer telling you about what is happening. Each person has buttons that you 'push' when the announcer tells you to. There are lots of other buttons to push and make noises also. Finally you make it to Mars with only a little trouble.
Don't miss the game after you get off the ride. It is so much fun. It's like a big video game. Eight people (2 teams of 4) are the astronauts and all other people are at machines helping you fix the aircraft you are on. The faster you fix your aircraft the better chance you have of winning against the other team. I love it!

I can give you a one word description

Vomit-inducing

Most people love it or hate it. I loved it and rode it twice, DH rode it once, and wasn't sick, just disoriented from the end sequence (not the spinning, or anything during the launch). He said it was the vertigo at the end, conflicting with what his eyes told him. He liked the ride, he just wouldn't ride it again.

Try it out, but don't eat before going into the ride, if you have any doubts.

It's on my "don't miss" list.

i was going to say what pretty much what Debbie-TN said. and keep in mind, do not eat lunch or dinner or any meal before u go on this ride, u might loose it. and also keep ur eyes straight ahead at the screne.

Well, if your DH wants to be an astronaut, you wanna hear a pilot's take on it?

DH spent most of the ride flipping switches on the console in front of us (ignoring my cautions to look straight ahead). His first comment when we got out was "You know, NASA would never put a runway in a canyon like that....and the runway was too short anyway." He did say that the stick was fairly realistic, but the console didn't have enough buttons.

I didn't think it was too bad (nauseating-wise), but then, I don't get sick on rides. DH does get motion sickness (aren't we all glad he's a pilot?) but didn't have a problem with the ride. You may want to try it first with your DH to see if your kids would like it - you know them best.

Thanks all for the input. I let dh read the description and I think he still may try it. I think it may be at the end of the night just in case he does'nt do well. I still haven't made up my mind. As for the girls, we'll see.:(

i'd read so much stuff about it on this board that I was terrified (and I love rides) so I sent on my partner - who gets sick on star tours and won't ride anything that goes high/fast/round in circles thinking if he could survive I could. He loved it, had no problems and thought it was amazing. So, 7 hours of whining later I went on - my legs were shaking when i got on, i had the sick bag in my hand, and..... nothing. It was okay, but i think i'd read so much I was expecting this really wild ride and was actually a little disappointed. Its a shame, the signs outside are terrifying and it's being so over hyped that no-ones going on it (we had a 10 minute wait each time) but its really not so bad it's a small capsule but they blow cold air straight on your face which stopped me feeling claustrophic and while I felt a bit dizzy at one point it passed in seconds, you don't go upside down, and - it's only four minutes long - himself went on it three times in one day - and went back to epcot again specially to ride it the fourth. For any child who wants to be an astronaut it's a must do - I saw one little boy crying his eyes out outside because his parents wouldn't go on and he was so looking forward to it. I wanted to take him on myself but thought they might think I was mad!

This really is the love it/hate it ride of WDW! Here was my family's experience last week. DS (15) (been to US Space Camp 4 times), 2 DDs and their guy friend-all in their 20's: walked onto the ride - DS did not get sick, but said never again, DD1 came off white as a ghost and had to walk back to BWV and go to bed she was so shaky, DD2 said never again, friend didn't get sick and said it was "pretty good". They all said that there was a young girl about 12 laying down sick on a bench near the exit, being attended to by several adults and CMs. When DH joined us he went on and absolutely loved it! Go figure! I didn't try it this time as I was going to baby swap with DD who got so sick, so I needed to be with the baby - next trip I'll try it on an empty stomach and at the very end of the day in case I have a problem -don't want to chance ruining one minute of park time being sick from a ride! PS: none of them looked to the side or closed their eyes - I had given them the full drill!!:smooth:

Just got back today and we did this ride twice. It isn't as bad as it is made out to be. None of us felt sick afterwards just a little disoriended and I got pretty sick from body wars. it was nothing like that. We didn't witness any one lying down, or getting sick or even over hear anyone complaining of feeling ill. I definitely think it is worth it to try it out.

I felt a little disoriented after riding MS ... nothing too serious. I'm not sure I'd go again though... I didn't really like the feel of the g-forces pulling me back in my seat.

My son and I hit it last MNSSHP and loved it!. IMO it's the only ride in Epcot really worth the ticket price (or in our case the hopper pass for just long enough to ride mission space and skip to AK). I was sort of disappointed in it actually as I had heard that they "toned it down".

My son loved it and really liked the feeling of being sucked back into his seat...said it felt like a magnet pulling him back :yo-yo: I also wish it had lasted more than the couple mintues it did but then again I keep wishing someone would make a coaster long enough to last 20 minutes too :hyper:

Everyone is right about the games at the exit though...excellent. The big game where the two sides compete is really well done and some of the video games like the space walk/rescue was a lot of fun. Space mountain is still my fav but Mission space really comes in a close 2nd.

Do you ever go upside down? Or is the spinning just around not up and over? Does that make sense ?

I don't think the ride ever goes upside down... the ride does tilt up at the beginning when you're about to take-off. The ride spins around to give you the effect of the g-forces but the visuals are designed to make you think that you're actually moving forward.

HTH :p
