Deposit refund when my credit card account is closed?

I just did some checking and it turns out I can save $102 on our upcoming room reservation by booking through Orbitz. The current reservation is through the Disney website. I want to cancel the reservation from Disney and re-book through Orbitz, but I realized I cancelled the card that the deposit was paid on. What will happen to the refund if I cancel? I don't want to mess with trying to get a refund from Chase if the refund can only go back to them, but I would like to take advantage of the savings. I'm not sure what to do.

Thanks, that's what I thought would happen. I'm not sure it's worth $102 to hassle with changing everything. We are all set up with Magicbands, dining reservations, etc. That and the hassle of waiting for Chase, I think I'll just let it ride as is. I don't need to go looking for problems.

My thoughts exactly. Not worth $102 of potential issues.

Did you completely close the account or was the card canceled and a new card with a new number issued because of a security breach or a lost card? If you kept the account, but just got a new card, the credit will go back into the account.

This has been my experience too. I needed to have cards reissued due to fraudulent charges on my account- the original card was hacked. And, ironically, last fall Disney owed me a credit. They ran it through under the "old number" that they originally charged to. Chase bank then moved the credit to the new card. It took a couple weeks though.

However, I am with the previous posters...I wouldn't bother for $102. Unless you don't mind waiting for the credit, and spending the time to do all this.

Do you still have the card or an old statement? I'd call Chase and ask them.

Just call Disney, tell them the price difference and see what they'll do. Can't hurt to ask

I went through this with Bank of America when my card was canceled and a new number issued. Disney processed the refund to my old card, but the credit still made it to my bank account. Even though the card is no longer active it is still tied to your account. Every bank is different, but it took about 5 business days for the credit to appear in my account.

Sorry for the late reply here. I cancelled the card because I was going to get charged a $95 annual fee. I originally got the card because of a big point-bonus and no annual fee for one year. Well, it was my primary card for over a year, and I forgot about the upcoming annual fee kicking in. Once I noticed I was about to be charged, I cancelled the card, but didn't even give a thought about our deposit being tied to that card. It won't be a big deal in the long run, it just prevented me from being able to cancel and re-book at the lower rate through orbitz. Thanks for the replies everyone! I now have a no-annual fee card BTW.

If you cancel the reservation, you will lose your ADR's and such I believe. You would have to order new MB as well. I wouldn't risk it for $100.00. If you do, please report back how it goes. I would be interested in if you were able to keep your reservations and how the process went.

Personally, I wouldn't use Orbitz just to save $102. I'd stick with the Disney reservation.

I don't know about the Magicbands, but it won't have an effect on ADR's at all. I made an ADR a week prior to booking our resort with no problem and my dining reservation is not even connected to our resort confirmation in any way.
