Hi everyone

Could anyone tell me please when you stay at a Disneyworld Resort do they hold a deposit against your Credit Card when you check in. I can't seem to find out anywhere. I am just concerned, as last year Bahama Bay resort held $100 dollars for each of the 3 wks we stayed. This year we have two rooms booked at POF and if they hold $300 per room that is going to be $600 dollars a big chunk of our spends:sad2:sad2: I know we get it back at the end but i would really like it to spend during our stay so fingers crossed someone has good news for me:goodvibes

I Don't remember them taking a deposit, we had money put on our key card but as far as I know that was all.

Just asked dh and he said not as such we gave them our credit card details so we could have express checkout. They just left us an envelope on the door with what we had spent if anything. They never asked any amount as a refundable deposit.

I am sure UKDEB posted about this a few days ago, just been thru about 50 of her latest posts but I can't find it. Hope I didn't dream it:goodvibes
She said something about they put a hold on your account of different amounts for different classes of resorts. Guessing here but it was something like Value $500, Mod $750 and delux $1,500, if you moved resort they put 2 holds on.
Hopefully she will be along to confirm or deny (or someone else) and give exact info.

We gave our credit card and had the $500 put on our room card but that is not a deposit it is for spending around WDW.

Thats OK if you are not going out of Disney, For us we spend more time away from Disney. All depends what Bumbleink's plans are and what kind of credit limit they have. I have just increased my Nationwide card to £5,000($10,000) as we are staying at AKL, offsite hotel and cruise, total 24 nights, with spend and hotel holds it can mount up.

To clarify what the OP was askng about a room deposit we have never been asked for an actual deposit. We were offered express checkout which we took and they took our cc details so that they could automatically deduct any room facilities we used such as the phone or the internet but that wa optional. The $500 is NOT a deposit this is money you can have on your room key should you want it to use as a charge card whilst you are there, again this is optional.

Hi everyone, that is what worries me most if $600 dollars were to be held against our CC, along with the hire car deposit, that we know for sure is being held it is going to be almost $1000 total:scared: we only have a very small credit limit and it means we will have to use actual spends. Which is why i am desperate to know before we go.

Thanks for everyone taking time to answer

That is for the resort charge card, where you can charge stuff you spend at Disney back to your hotel room, you are given a limited on the charge card based on what type of resort you are staying at. You are given the option of having the card or not. I never gave any credit cards to Disney when checking in as we did not want the charge card.

Do you mean the cost of the room for the holiday? We paid our room off before we went so didn't have to pay for that.

yes, the cost of the room - we had a room-only reservation, so i'd only paid a 1 night deposit before we arrived...
on the day we checked in, they charged my AMEX card for the full amount of the room for the entire stay...

I think that the OP is talking about the deposit that you sometimes have to give when you arrive and is refundable when you leave (at least that is what I took it to be) just as some hotels take a resort fee of $2.50 a day or something like that.

I think what the OP means is do they take an extra refundable deposit as security to cover any damages etc.

I gave my card info to Disney as I wanted the charging facility, don't remember any holds being made on the card as we were told they only needed card info if you want to charge stuff :confused3
What we'll be doing this year is using a designated credit card for hotel and car hire so if any holds are made then it won't affect our spending (relying mostly on credit cards this time as we're travelling around and don't want to be carrying lots of cash, plus the exchange rate is better on our cards) Since we're staying in 6 different hotels, some prepaid and some not, I think this will work out OK. OP: Would it be possible to apply for another credit card to use for any possible holds? If you don't want it for any other purpose it can always be cut up and cancelled upon your return.

Sorry everyone, i seem to have caused a bit of confusion here. The deposit i mean't is the one like with car hire companies that they hold against your card should you cause damage. It is never actually taken but like last year it meant we had $300 dollars less to spend on our travelex travel card until we checked out when they released it again. Blimey no wonder i am causing confusion lol.

Thank you all for your help

they put a hold on my card, but not for damage to the room - rather for purchases..
they asked if i want to use my room key as a charge card - i said yes, so they put a hold on my credit card for $500 against possible charges..
when i reached 500, i had to settle with them and put another 500 on it..

but had i not wanted to use the key card as a charge card, they wouldn't have put any hold on my credit card at all.

Deposit:- disney do not charge you a deposit if staying on site

If booked direct:- you can just pay for first night and pay the rest upon checkin

CC charge hold on the room(disney):- you can put your CC on your room key (KTTW) for chargeing things to your room, you can ask for a limit or leave it open.Me we dont do that as how many keys get left roun pool ect

The only thing disney point out when checking in is the charges for the inroom phone, you have to sign to say that they have expained charges to you
This is becuse a few years ago they had problems with teanagers racking up large phone bill on parents tab without them knowing

If you put a CC on room (disney)you can use express check out from 6 am of leaving day

If you dont put a CC on room (disney) you have to check there are no charges when you checkout or pay for any if any incured

Rember if you do have CC on room,KTTW card will stil be able to be charged to you, till midnight of checkout day,so dont leave your room card liying abot if there are chargeing privaliges on it
