I was so excited to get free dining pin code finally, until I saw the airline prices!! Denver to Orlando, the week of Thanksgivings 4 tickets round trip for $2950:sad2: We usually pay around $1200. Now I am wondering if I should cancel my package :sad1: Will it ever going to go down before my final payment is due in October? Are the prices better around Christmas?
This sucks! I waited about a month to get pin codes, finally to call to find out I actually have FD pin codes, and now I can't even use them.

Huh?

Ok, so I just ran the ITAMatrix for your dates. I went from DEN to MCO and TPA, and the pricing from Nov 15th thru Thurs the 21st (Thanksgiving) runs between $200-$300 per person, jumps to between $400-$500 on Fri-Sat, down to $374 on Sun, then back to the $200-$300 range afterwards. This is for a 7-9 day stay.

Same holds true for 4 night only to MCO, but are actually a little cheaper on Fri and Sat.

I suggest using the Matrix or Hipmunk.com, as they both use the same engine, but Hipmunk will have a link to the airline's website for that fare.

Good luck!

looks like thanksgiving is the 28th this year(:confused3) OP is probably looking at higher prices for that week, which would be the 23 onward

Yes, Thanksgiving is the 28th this year!! I checked the flights with Frontier Airlines November 23rd and returning November 30th. Southwest was a bit cheaper but not much. The prices seem to be jumping on November 22nd and go back down after Monday the week of Thanksgiving.

Yep, happens every year; however, the prices are still under $500 per person at anytime during these two weeks. Not sure if this is in your range, but it is a lot less than initially posted.

Wow! So, they were higher when initially posted!! You mean less than $500 each way or round trip? I checked the flights on Southwest website and they are higher than $500 round trip, $287 each way. I think that is crazy. I used to think $150 each way was too high!!

I don't do WN, they are much higher than any airline out of Portland, mainly due to the required connection. Check the legacy airlines using Hipmunk, as I mentioned in the previous post.

I just rechecked the ITAMatrix. Yes, prices from Sat Nov 23rd-Sat Nov 30th are running $524 per person totaling $2,258 with tax and fees. However, if you leave a day earlier (Fri Nov 22nd) and stay 5 days (return Fri Nov 29th), the price drops to $446 pp (totaling $1,782.40 with tax & fees). Same pricing if you leave on Sat Nov 23rd but stay only six night (return Fri Nov 29th).

In addition when I posted yesterday, the prices were a little lower for your exact dates, so just wait until next Tuesday to see if they drop.

I guess flexibility is the key, as your times are pretty popular (moving one day over saves $1,200 from your original quote). In addition, run searches into Tampa versus Orlando (and factor in rental car pricing), or check Colorado Springs for both MCO and TPA.

ETA: ...and for the love of Pete, please don't cling to WN as if they are savior of airfares ;)

Thanks Greysword. This is very helpful. Southwest is usually the least expensive airline from Denver. Frontier Airlines is usually good too, but it depends on the location. I checked both Tampa and Ft Lauderdale and both were comparable to Orlando.
I didn't think about Colorado Springs. They usually don't have direct flights to Orlando or many places. The funny thing is that most flights from Colorado Springs have a stop in Denver International airport, which is closer to our house than Colorado springs. So, we have to drive an hour to Colorado springs airport and fly to Denver (which is 20 minutes from our house) and then take off again. :confused3 However, I'll check just to make sure.
I will check flights every day and hope for the prices to go down a bit.
Thanks again :)

Welcome. As I mentioned, WN is low in DEN mainly to absorb market share rather than make a profit. This may remain due to Frontier and United's presence, but WN will likely raise prices once their competitive advantage wains.

You could get direct flights to MCO from DEN, but a connection isn't all that bad, and if flying Delta or American out of Colorado Springs (why does the filter remove C O S?) is significantly less than United, Southwest, or Frontier out of DEN, then it may be worth the drive (which is why those in the Springs usually travel the hour to DEN ;) ).

Personally, I prefer Frontier to Southwest mainly due to the in-flight entertainment. The TV on a four+ hour flight is nice, especially during football season :woohoo:.
