Tuesday night I had to have a tooth pulled. The tooth had a root canal over 20 years ago. The root of the tooth cracked (very long story). It took quite awhile and a lot of novacaine. I wasn't really in too much pain yesterday and it felt pretty normal. Today when I woke up, the whole area feels numb again. :confused3 Tooth #29 was pulled.

did an oral surgeon extract it or DDS? I had a very similar situation, had a crown with post..believe it or not the post cracked, the crown was fine, but needed to get the post out..required a long visit as the post was in 7 pieces! I had stitches and the grafting done for an implant ( which I have yet to get done) and had some numbness the nest day, but I htink it was reidual as I had required 5 injections of lidacaine(sp) Hope you are feeling better soon

Ask the person who did the extraction directly if they exposed or affected the Inferior Alveolar Nerve (“IAN”). Roots of molars and wisdom teeth have been known to wrap around this nerve which controls feeling to the lower part of your face. I am an IAN injury sufferer (for lack of a better term) since 1998 and hope this is not the case. (3) follow up surgeries and 12 years later I still have areas in my lip/gum/chin area that are numb. Good luck, hope you get feeling back fast.....

I had two teeth pulled recently, opposing wisdoms. The upper one first by my dentist, then the lower one began erupting and he didn't feel confident doing it. The oral surgeon pulled it in some 2 minutes (although 3 hours in the office!) and there was pain for maybe two weeks. Numbness the morning after though...I'd definitely talk to them, maybe get in another visit.

Thanks for the replies.

The tooth was pulled by a dentist (not too far from you finfan ;))

I left a message and they said that he would call me when he gets in. He's got late office hours tonight so I'm not sure what time that will be.

It's weird. It's the outside that's numb. I can feel everything inside my mouth but if I touch the outside of my jaw, I can feel it with my fingers but not on my cheek.

As I said, this is one long story and it's not looking like it's going to end anytime soon. :scared1:
