Dental Crowns....what a budget buster!!.....

I agree with everyone else. Get another opinion. I know your pain! I had two crowns done in January and maxed out my dental plan for the year by January 4th!

Food for thought: If your dentist has all the latest equipment, flat screen tv's in every room, digital x-rays with computers in every room and an espresso machine in the waiting room he needs to pay for it some how and guess how he is paying for it?:rolleyes1

AMEN! We went to a dentist once that among other things, was known for his amazing teeth whitening services. Of course, he also had a state of the art espresso/cappuccino machine in his waiting room.:rotfl2:

I just recently had a root canal and crown, and have maxed out my insurance for the year. Now I went back for another visit, and I will need all 4 of my silver fillings removed b/c they are cracking my back teeth, and have crowns put on all 4, for a whopping total of.... $5300!!!
No idea where to start with all this. I sure wish they would've known about silver amalgam fillings 25 years ago when I got all the fillings. :confused3 I wish I felt that my dentist was wrong, but he showed me the large cracks forming (that my previous dentist IGNORED year after year!!) and I have to agree something needs to be done.
Anyone have any advice? I'm really at a loss and stressed out over the entire situation. Guess I'll be getting another job and skipping a few years at WDW.... :scared1:

I had to look twice to be sure that I didn't write this.....I know your pain. I also have maxed out my insurance for the year. Had a abscess under an existing crown so I had to have a root canal and a new crown. Now I have a broken molar on the other side that needs a root canal and a new crown....Still not sure what I am going to do about that.,,,,In all my years of dental insurance this is the first time that I have ever maxed out my coverage. If only that abscess would have happened 2 months sooner it would have been in last year.

Is there a local dental dept at a nearby Hospital, they actually do work, (under the care of an expert of course) my sil did that and it saved her a small fortune.
I know what you mean about those silver fillings, I have had 4 done and was luckily covered for all and have I think 2 more to get in this year.... Seriously tho, is it possible to get an other opinion or are you confident it is accurate info...it is a business after all ;) Is there anything that can be done over time, and perhaps on a payment plan....sorry, I hope this works out for you, Good Luck...you did not mention Pain, thank goodness, at least its not Urgent!

Here is my 2 cents - some of which is a repeat of others advice. My current dentist is a good family friend and is a wonderful dentist who my son has LOVED to go to since he was really little. How she managed to make a small boy love the dentist is still a mystery to me!! Anyway, I have fractures in almost all of my teeth - I have lupus and unfortunately am frequently in pain (not whining). My dentist told me that fractures are common in people with chronic pain because we tend to clench our teeth (and yes, since she pointed this out to me I find I do this all the time - I'm trying to get better). I currently have had 8 teeth capped in about the last six years. Because we're friends and I know she is teasing she tells me I'm going to put at least one of her kids through college!! Sorry, I'm rambling. Long story short she says that cracked teeth do not need to be fixed unless 1 - they hurt, 2 - there is decay at or near the gum line or 3 - they actually break. We have waited to cap all 8 of my currently capped teeth until they actually broke and she has repaired three teeth for me instead of capping them when they broke. She has done all this to try to make things so I can afford them - like you I have an annual cap. So if I were you I would consider getting a second opinion. The most expensive advice isn't always right!! By the way my Mom who lives in Mass needed two teeth capped and her detist there quoted her $1800, she waited until she came to visit me in TX and my dentist did it for $900, so check prices. Good luck!!!
