Has anyone used the Denise Austin DVD's to reach you goal? I currently am using the DA Pilates for Every Body workout. Been using this since 7/13 and I have lost 15 lbs. If I keep this up daily will I notice additional weight loss? Or is this the best I will get?

Opinions please.

Actually didn't know she was still putting out DVD's...

Regardless, you will eventually plateau if you are doing the same thing week on week. The body is a marvelous machine that readily adapts to and normalizes loading patterns. You can increase intensities and move the plateau a small amount but you should consider a few other options. You need some strength work as well as cardio work. If you are getting these then great. I find the best results are made if you can rotate on both a weekly and monthly bases your efforts so that the body does not grow accustomed to loading patterns.

I would consider adding to your library to get this mix

Hope this helps

Any suggestions, keeping in mind I am in my mid 50's.:rolleyes1

And your point about being you in mid-fifties is?!?!

If you like DA, add a boot camp DVD....though she loses a lot of credibility when I review her DVD list. This is specifically due to 'spot' reduction DVD's.

Try the The Biggest Loser: Cardio Max and The Biggest Loser: Power Sculpt DVDs. They offer what seems to be a great cardio and light stregth element (mostly body weight).

Don't get me wrong about DA, I think the one you have is prabably one of the better DA DVDs.

I would do the BL cardio DVD on Monday, the BL Sculpt on Wed and the DA Pilates DVD on Friday. On Tuesday, Thursdy and Saturday I would go out the door for a jog/brisk walk for of at least 45-60 minutes.

If you want to step it up, one of the best set of DVD's out there is the P90x DVD's. While really advnced if performed to the fullest extent, there is an option to perform the 'Lean" routine. Not near as much strength but more cardio. Tony is great about pushing the reduced as well as more advanced modifications to each move.

Oh, I am 52 so that is why I kind of push the mid-50's comment. Remember, only go as hard as you can - but push within safe ranges past the initial point of wanting to quit.

OK, I think I might try the BL- Cardio DVD. I know at the end of the DA I am a sweating mess. So after reading the reviews, this might prove interesting. :scared1: Wish me luck.

Oh goodness, she's putting out new ones all the time. Have you been to collagevideo.com. She's got a quite a few in the mix there and just came out with a new 1.

But to the OP. I had this video as a promo from a magazine along with the book. Sooner or later the video will stop working for you. Your muscles just get too used to it. A change up, like some upper body work or resistance training will add to the mix and can help out too. After awhile you'll just get tired of the same ole routine anyhow. If you like Denise check out the link above. She actually does have a pretty varied amount of exercise videos out. If you want someone new then you'll find no shortage of instructors here and you can play clips to see what you like.

For me personally, I loved her book but couldn't stand her as a video instructor. She got on my nerves right from the beginning on the tape. Boy was i surprised:idea: No matter though. Found instructors that I like and moved on to them. works out well.

And age means nothing BTW. Its your exercise ability that counts. Nothing wrong with buying a workout that looks geared for 20yos if you feel you can do it and would enjoy it. And ENJOYMENT should be your absolute live or die key. Because if you don't like the instructor or the routine you won't stick it. While there are workout labeled for 50's 60's etc. You won't be carded at the checkout.

I like DA dvd's. I use her Fat Blasting Yoga dvd as cross training mainly in the winter when I can't (won"t go out in the cold). I run 3 days a week. I also have, w/out going upstairs to check, Core Hit the Spot and a couple others.

OK I added the Billy Blanks Cardio to my routine. Every night Billy Blanks Cardio. Each morning I switch on and off between DA Pilates for every body dvd and Billy Blanks Taebo Workout. I am beyond sweaty mess with Billy Blanks. :yay: It is totally embrassing how bad I look when I am done. But no pain no gain.

I have BB taebo..just be careful with that stick. I hit myself in the knee with it and it hurt for a while. He goes too fast for me and I'm not sure about the number of reps he does on each exercise.

This is why I love videos. In my own home I can look as bad as I think working out and no one but me knows. Hyper sweaty, out of breath. Doesn't matter at all.
