This morning DH and I decided it's time to refinish the finished basement...
Previous owners put in a drop ceiling (YUCK!) and also glued panelling to the cement walls- yes- glued! Well, with any sort of moisture- it's buckelled...and it's nasty looking- wicked dark cheap panelling.
I spent a few hours at homedepot- checking different materials we could/will use etc.
Came home, DH was with DD8 doing firewood, and DD7 was playing with her Bday toys- so I decided..ahhhhh start with the ceiling!
Ripped down the nasty drop ceiling panels- NASTY NASTY NASTY!...and started the metal frame. This "jerk of all trades" that use to own this place was something else. Everything is done 1/2 correctly. The frame basically fell down at once LOL
I didnt want to start the panelling until the kids were outta the house- as I'm sure I'll find mold behind it. I have the Muriatic Acid, and TSP to wash the walls with once the panelling is down, I figured I'd do one wall at a time- that way I have enough time to clean up the mold before they get home from school.
now to figure out what I'm putting back up for a ceiling...no drop ceiling here! We're going to NOT use any sheet rock, as that's not a good material to have in any damp environment. we do not have a water problem in our basement, but it is damp- after all it's a cellar!
We'll be drylocking the walls- to prevent any moisture...and the floor already had a drylock- enamel based paint on it.
I'm looking at those new tile things at Home Depot- 2x2 tiles- that have plywood on them, and a rubber bottom...suppose to be manufactured just for this type of installation.
Ahhhhhh the joys of remodeling! Demolitions my favorite part!
