Deluxes keep getting more expensive......

This thread title caught my eye. I am looking to add one night at WL in December either at the start or the end of our trip. I rented DVC points for our week months ago so I can't add a night that way. Anyway..it's holiday season and I knew it would be pricey. But over $500 a night for a standard view cheapest WL room? Ummm.. no thank you. Hopefully there will be a discount to get that down ...but still. That's outrageous and I am so thankful we booked a studio when we did. Heck..7 night in a WL studio that week cost me $1400 with exchange and Disney wants over $500 a night:eek:
I think I'll do a split stay and spend the first night at a value and save myself over $300.

That's exactly why nowadays we either rent someone's DVC points or stay offsite at a hotel where we can get better amenities than Disney offers. It's not just "a place to sleep" for us. We enjoy the hotels we stay at and care about where we stay. I'm really excited to see what happens when the Four Seasons opens. It has the deluxe prices, better amenities and is SO CLOSE to Disney. Even now, the Waldorf is practically on Disney property and is most of the time cheaper than a deluxe! The prices now are insane!

Not to mention the added benefit of loyalty programs. I just booked a free 2 night stay at Hilton bonnet creek ( where I will likely get free upgrade as honors hold status), tacked on after a AAA discounted 2 night stay at dolphin ( where I will likely get a free upgrade as SPF gold status), all for cheaper than 1 night at BC!!! I have never stayed onsite in my 10+ trip history, though I always wanted to. But when I can get deals like the one I just got, I can't begin to justify it! When our baby gets older and we need to get to a quick nap spot, or have a little more "magic" I may be able to justify split stays at a deluxe for a night or two at the end of our offsite stays. For those of you who were formerly deluxe onsite only guests, how was the transition to offsite? Did the addition of low prices and nice amenities help as much as you thought it would? I'm almost nervous to try doing split stays with deluxe onsite and offsite resort with a small child, as she might really miss the theming!

Man, iPad spell check errors... "Hold"should be gold, and "SPF" should be SPG!

We quit doing packages about 2 1/2 years ago. Now we strictly do room-only rates with the AP discount. For our family I would much rather invest in Annual passes than put money towards the dining plan. Once both our kids were considered adults it wasn't cost effective for us anymore.

We actually did the opposite. When our kids where younger we would rent a 2 bedroom condo offsite. We would put the kids to bed in their own room and my husband and I would enjoy the rest of the night. I was also able to throw a load of laundry in and let it dry overnight as well as get up early and shower and prepare for the day with out waking anyone up. Our trips were at least 7 days back then too.

Now that my kids are older and the trips are shorter, we prefer the convenience of deluxe hotels and love the convenience of the monorails.
