Deluxes keep getting more expensive......

What is everyone planning now that the resort prices are getting out of hand---are most of you moving to Renting DVC points (I am thinking about this for next year)?

My son has just been diagnosed with pretty bad meat allergies, so the DP does not have the appeal this year as much as in the past.

Any advice????

you can still stay at BC - only BCV - now the studio is smaller than a hotel room. It has queen bed and double sleeper sofa. a kitchenette - which is very helpfully fixing meals for your son. there is a free laundry mat on the 4th floor - bring your key you will need it.

now bad news - BCV is hard to get - still pretty popular - so you would need to make your reservation before the 7th month.

the bwv is much easier to get.

you can order groceries from wegoshop or garden grocer - like wegoshop because of my allergies.

now if you need 2 queen beds then OKW is your only choice for a studio.

The RO discount hasnt been very good this yr, or atleast not the GP ones. I had a client receive one back in Feb fr Sept for 35% off and that was the highest Ive seen this yr! I miss the 40% RO codes!

In 2011 we stayed CL at the Poly with a party of 4, this yr it is a party of 2 and NO CL and we are paying the same!! The kicker.. FD was more of a discount then RO at the Poly (20%) I absolutely adore the Poly and I hope to continue staying here but it probably wont be annually as before. Im very sad about that I live for our WDW vacations but.. We can go spend 7 days in hawaii with flights for the price we are paying to stay at the Poly this yr.

To get BCV for Oct (VERY popular for DVC members) you likely need to book right at the 11 month mark!

If you definitely want Oct then you want to rent between 11 months and 8 months for an Epcot resort- the longer your stay the earlier you should try to book.

After our next and last Deluxe stay next year it will be value and/or off site for us. We looked into a lot of options these seem to be the best to fit our way of vacation and budget. If Disney raises their ticket prices anymore we will strictly do Universal only from now on.

We have done deluxes for the past several years now, and I think that streak may come to an end this year. Just some quick figures on the proposed FD for Oct/Nov are showing the BC to be coming in around $6k for 10/30 to 11/9. It wasn't too many years ago this same trip would be closer to $5k.

Would the room-only discount possibly be better for us than the FD? My son has just been diagnosed with pretty bad meat allergies, so the DP does not have the appeal this year as much as in the past. We have even tossed around the idea of staying at the Swan/Dolphin, but have not stayed there for years.

The final option is just to stay at POR, and have some money left over to spend on vacation (we love the POR but are admittidly spoiled by the BC over the years).

Any advice????

We really wanted to do BC for our upcoming trip but you are right on about the price/quality situation. We decided to rent points through Davids and saved over $1000 on a BCV! More space (1 bedroom villa) for much less money.

The first time we stayed deluxe was in 2004--a savannah view room at AKL. We paid $89/night. Now, I did receive a pin, but still...the last time I priced out the same room with a discount code was 1-2 years ago and it was $400-$500 per night, depending in the night. We're staying offsite more and more, especially since we are a family of 6 and generally need 2 rooms. If we do stay onsite, we rent DVC points.

March is way too late for either BCV or BWV in late Oct. You'll likely be choosing from SSR or OKW, or maybe AKV if you try to book then.

The Food and Wine Festival is very popular with DVC members, and many BCV/BWV owners bought at those resorts just so they could book them at 11 months for F&W. You'll want to be working with David's by late November 2013 to book those resorts for late October 2014.

Renting points is a tremendous savings, and I've done it a few times. The last two trips I was afraid that I might have to cancel, so stayed at the Swan/Dolphin just in case. Ended up loving them, and saving a lot of money with AAA or nurse's discount. I would happily stay at either Swan or Dolphin in the future. Deluxe stays at closer to moderate prices.

Then I priced stuff out for 2014. Assuming 30% discount, I can stay at the Ritz CL cheaper than at GF SL. Now, I love GF, but it's no Ritz. When you add in that the big selling point of convenience is a monorail that frequently breaks down, well, let's just say we'll do some seriously thinking before we book our 2014 trips.

We never have, never would book a room at WDW without at least a 20% (usually 30% ) discount.

We never have, never would forgo that discount for 'free' dining.

Aside from a 'we can not justify the cost' mentality, the mere thought of selecting, trying to reserve, figuring out how to be at a certain place at a certain time a couple of dozen times during our trip.... Add FP+ reservations to the mix...

The only way we have ever managed a deluxe stay was renting points. There are only 3 of us, and renting a studio comes out about the same as a room at a moderate in many cases. When there is a discounted rate at the mods it is a few hundred more.

Check out the DVC section. There is a rent/trade board there, but you need to be logged in to see it. There is a good sticky about renting points, how to use the board, ec.

OP, too late for this trip, but I woul dagree with others about renting points for next year.

you might be surprised at how much you like POR, though, if you try it. you can use FQ and their pool also. we also like to spend time enjoying the resort;also other things besides the parks. so you mightlike the perk of the boat to DTD

we stayed at the dolphin 2x and the grotto pool there is really nice. and the DDP might not be so cost effective for you anymore becuase of your son's allergy.
