Deluxe vs. Value

I know this is probably a no brainer since but here is my question.

We have always stayed at deluxe resorts (Poly and GF). We normally go twice a year (one 10 day trip and one 4-5 day trip). Due to the construction at Poly we decided to stay elsewhere in October. Since this trip is to celebrate DD birthday we let her pick the resort. She picked AoA due to the character themed areas. Based on the cost savings I figured if we start staying in value resorts we can go 3 times a year instead of 2. We don't spend a lot of time in the room however we have gotten spoiled to the monorail to MK and Epcot.

If you could go twice a year at deluxe resorts or 3 times a year at value which would you choose?

My choice would be twice a year at a deluxe. We've never stayed at any of the values, but we love the deluxe resorts. We spend far more time at the resort than we do the parks, so the resort is a big part of our vacation and we enjoy (and take advantage of) the extra amenities the deluxes provide. I would even choose a deluxe 1 time a year over 3 times at a value. To some, the parks is what Disney is all about and the room is just a place to sleep/shower, but for us the resort is a bigger part of our trips and the room is more than a place to sleep.

Personally, I'd go twice a year at a deluxe. I have no interest in a value resort. Too big, too many people, too many large groups (aka cheerleaders...). While we don't spend a lot of time in the room, I do enjoy the time that we do spend there. Our favorites are POFQ and WL. I enjoy the ambiance, food options, pools, and transportation at both. I think it's worth the extra expense. I know others will disagree, but that's our MO!

That is very tough. We are able to make multiple trips a year and lately have been staying at moderates or values. If you are not in the room very much than I would probably say make the extra trip a year. We are becoming more resort people and less park now so a nicer resort is starting to fall toward the top of the list. Good luck!

Hmm 3x is surely better than 2x if you can afford the bills when away as it might be losing more income going away often.

Same here ... we do however, enjoy the moderates too.

Since all of your previous experiences have been at deluxe resorts, I'd at least get that value resort stay in your rear view mirror before making any rash decisions. Just sayin.

We've stayed at a value resort exactly once. I'd much rather go less often but stay at a resort that I enjoyed, than put up with the lack of comfort in a cheaper resort. But we actually have enjoyed our stays at mod resorts. Perhaps that might be a compromise for you. Would the reduction from deluxe prices to mod prices still allow you to go more often?

DH and myself are both salaried employees and have plenty of vacation time, so time off from work is not an issue. We just can't afford 3 stays a year at deluxe (only 2 per year), but we could afford 3 a year at value. It is a tough call. Maybe after we stay at a value resort for one visit we can choose.

This answer has changed for me as the years have come n gone.

We were always rope droppers with only mostly sleeping at the resort. This was all we knew (values that is). So to us more days in WDW would win by a mile. After moving up to mods, we learned a lot of things that we were missing with values. And also started enjoying the resort on non park days. Mods, were not so in your face Disney, which we kinda weren't used to but did enjoy. It wasn't until staying at a deluxe/ villa , which really skewed our thinking.
Not that I wouldn't ever stay in a value again, but we do enjoy resort time equally as much now as park time, and deluxes offer sooo much more.

Being that you go for roughly days I too In this instance would say Go deluxe. Now I f you said either 8 days or so at deluxe, or 14 or so days at value or mod, then I would go that route.

To me 8 days wouldn't be enough to get my WDW fix for the year...lol

Have fun choosing and enjoy your trip...s.

We used to stay at the Poly but now stay Value (Pop). I have to say, it's a HUGE difference and one that I just can't get over. Pop is perfectly fine, but I don't ENJOY being there like I did at the Poly. I don't look forward to it, it's just an affordable place to sleep when we're at Disney. I find the rooms small, beds way too hard (and small), miss having a balcony and ceiling fan, and it just feels more like shopping at Walmart vs. a boutique. Does that make sense?

That being said, I deluxe is no longer in the budget for me so we stay at values. However, my heart will always be deluxe.

I would go with twice a year at a deluxe. I have never stayed at a deluxe before, but I know that it is hard to step down when you do stay in one lol. I have stayed at all of the moderates and values and I am a moderate girl. The difference is just huge but the price of the moderate is no where as steep at the deluxe resorts. We love Port Orleans, and when we first booked our trip for this year we were booked at Pop. I just was not excited to stay there like I am for POFQ or Riverside. Got a free dining pin and was able to switch to POFQ w/ FD and I was literally jumping up and down! Ever since I have stayed at Port Orleans, I can't go back to values lol. I would probably go twice a year at a better resort if I were you.

Are you thinking about a family suite at AoA, or a Mermaid room?

I'd rather go more often and stay value. I would be fine staying in a value resort and my upcoming solo trip is at AS Sports. I think the deluxe resorts are way overpriced. I have enjoyed stays at POFQ and CSR and thought those were great.

If I had that much time off work and could easily pay for flights 3 times I'd go three times value. Otherwise two times mod or deluxe.

I would suggest spitting the different and going moderate...AoA is closer to Moderate pricing compared to the All Stars or POP... Values are great, and I enjoyed our stay in one for our first trip...that's what they are best for, the first trip, or the family on a budget...since you plan to come multiple times in a year, I think you will enjoy the larger rooms and better facilities of the moderates.

1 thing I forgot to add. If it weren't for DVC, we'd also be at the Moderates ,more often too.

It's a perfect combination between value and deluxe. And CSR would definitely have been our home of choice.:thumbsup2

I would do the deluxe. My reasoning is simple. The travel to and fro. Don't get me wrong, I love Disney, but two trips a year is plenty due to the hassles to get there and get back. Give me two nice deluxe trips anyday.:thumbsup2

This varies for us year to year and depending upon who we are going with. Younger families like to go to the park all day. Veterans and more elderly or just slow paced vacationers will more often enjoy moderates or deluxe.

I prefer deluxe but occasionally choose moderates or values depending upon my mood, where I have stayed most recently, length of the trip etc. Every trip is its own decision and choice. We often mix moderate or value as part of a split stay with a deluxe to lower cost to our budget level.

Enjoy!
