Deluxe vs. Standard DDP

We'll go during free dining. Considering upgrading to Deluxe Dining. Can people tell me what their experience w/it has been? Their reasons for choosing it?
Thanks!

We upgraded to DxDP from free regular dining for our trip last week. My thought process for doing this was that we would be getting up early, even earlier than we do for work at home, having long days being very active in the parks, and staying out late. We'd be much more active than we are at home, and we eat 3 meals a day at home. So I figured with regular dining, we'd be paying for at least one meal a day OOP.

We are pretty hearty eaters and found the DxDP to be WAY too much food. We cancelled 3 ADRs because we were still too full from the previous meal or we were much too lazy to go to the ADR. When you have DxDP, you feel compelled to go to a TS restaurant and get your money's worth but we found two ADRs a day to be annoying and we were far more tired than we anticipated. There were several instances when we shared an appetizer or dessert, wasting the second one we were entitled to. At the end of our 7 night stay, we had 5 meal credits left over :scared1: So yes, we wasted money.

I say it was too much food because there is never an instance in "real life" in a restaurant where my BF and I would EACH order an appetizer and EACH order a dessert also. You also get bread at most places so an appetizer is not entirely necessary. If you do eat mostly TS meals, you'll rarely use your snacks because you won't be hungry or you'll waste snacks on bottled water just to use them.

Regardless of everything I just said, I have to wonder if part of the reason we weren't real hungry is because it was so hot and we were so exhausted. The heat took a lot out of us and we were really run down with little energy by the end of the week. I might consider giving DxDP a second chance on our next trip, because we will be going during cooler temps and won't be trying to pack in everything into our days, since we've done everything. If we find the same thing then, I'd rule out DxDP for any future trips.
