Deluxe vs Moderate

We are tyring to decide between the Beach Club or CBR for our first trip to WDW. My husband wants to spend the extra money to stay at a deluxe and I am not sure if it is worth an extra $1400.00 for a standard room per week at the rack rates. Our kids love to swim and my husband wants to sleep in a queen size bed vs the full size. Please help us to decide! Thanks!

That's a hard decision. I'm all for saving money too, but I have given in to my husband and decided to stay at the Poly over the WL on our next trip.

I have stayed at both the YC (the Beach Club's sister resort) and the CBR before. Here are my thoughts on your situation:

I didn't love the CBR (but many on this board love it). Part of it was the theming. I don't love the whole Caribbean theme, but you may. The main thing that I wasn't happy with was the sheer size of CBR. It is very large and spread out and had quite a hike to get to the Food Court. We also ended up hiking to a different bus stop because the one closest to us was the last on the route and we always had to cram ourselves in. Also, the resort is off by itself so you can't walk to anything. My favorite moderate is definitely Port Orleans.

The BC is wonderful! It definitely has the best pool. Your kids would love it. The location is great. You can walk to the Boardwalk area, Epcot and MGM.

Still, $1400 is a lot of money. I think that if this is going to be the only WDW vacation you think you will take in the forseeable future, I would go the deluxe route. If you plan to make this the first trip of many and you don't think you can afford (or don't want to spend) the money for a deluxe again, I would probably go the moderate route. There are people here who stay at the GF one time and the All Stars the next, but most people agree that it is very hard to move down once you're used to a certain level of resort.

It's unfair to compare a mod to a deluxe. You can only do this based on money. If money is no issue, BC would be great all around. But if money is an issue, CBR would work too. Try to stay in Martinique or Trinidad North.

Depending on the time of year you are going there could be substantial discounts that would narrow the cost difference between BC and CBR

I would do a split stay - maybe 4 nights at CBR or another moderate and 3 at BC - this way the financial sting will not be so high

thanks

Why are you paying rake rates? You need to spend more time around here! There is no comparison between a Mod and a Deluxe... if it wasn't worth it Disney would not be filling all those rooms everynight and we all on these boards wouldn't be going back so often! Go Deluxe if you can afford it. You only live once and you can't take it with you...

Thanks for your replys. I am hoping to use our Disney Visa to get the 7 for 4 deal. (something I learned on this board!) I was just using the rack rates to show the difference. I am starting to lean toward the deluxe. We want to make this a special family vacation which makes the money thing not as important. I just wanted to make sure we weren't spending more money than we needed to spend. Thanks again!

No comparison if you can afford the Deluxe BC then go for it!!

The BC is amazing! Great location! The pool alone is worth it to stay there!

Enjoy!

I say go for it. I initially had 2 rooms booked at CBR since we're a family of 5. Don't get me wrong, CBR looks like a beautiful resort, however, the thought of staying at the BC was in the back of my mind. The more I kept hearing about SAB and the close proximity to Epcot and MGM, the more I felt it would be the best choice for us. I did the price comparison and decided on 1 room at BC which actually came out to be slightly cheaper than the 2 rooms I had booked. I have 3 boys which include 1 teen and 2 preteens and I feel like I made the right choice. This is your first trip so I'd say dive into the magic head first!

We have stayed at both moderates and deluxes. We have joined DVC, so we really don't go through this decision any more. Before we joined though, I remember asking this same question many times.

We usually looked at the time of year we were going and the ages of our children. Our decision was made upon how much time we felt we were going to spend in the room or at the resort. If this is your first trip to WDW, do you feel you will be spending most of you time in the parks??It may be better to go with a moderate then and use the money elsewhere.

To me, the big issue is convenience. The BC is within walking distance of the Boardwalk, MGM and, of course, Epcot. I always want to stay at the moderates to try them out (especially POR or POFQ), but then I start to think about having to take a bus everywhere. Inevitably, I am back to the deluxes. Of course, for $1400, you could probably take a taxi every day and still save a ton of dough.

The other big issue for me is the food. If you stay at the CBR, you have a food court and Old Port Royale to choose from. Every other restaurant requires a drive (either in your car or on a bus). If you want to try another resort restaurant, you definitely will need a car unless you have the time for multiple bus rides. However, if you stay at the BC you will have 6 restaurants at the Y&BC, plus you are within walking distance of 6 restaurants at the Boardwalk, 5 at the Swan and Dolphin and God knows how many at the World Showcase. So if variety of food is important, the deluxe is the way to go.

My goal is to stay at a moderate next time for the first few days, hit AK (since that always requires a bus anyway) and DTD, then transfer to a deluxe for the rest of my stay.

Hope this helps.

We have stayed at CBR and Yacht Club. Now that we have 2 boys (and a daughter on the way), if we can afford it, we will definitely be staying at the YC again. While we liked CBR (POR is better IMO), taking busses to all the parks with young kids really is hard. At least we had the ferry for MGM and could walk to Epcot. Everything seemed more convenient for us at the YC and the pool is to "die" for.

Although some people like the idea of splitting your stay, I would find that a huge inconvenience, especially with kids. If you can afford the Beach Club, go for it!

If you can afford, you should try the BC. We love staying at the Deluxe resorts. The service is wonderful! Although, now we will only stay at Deluxe resorts. We have just become too spoiled! :Pinkbounc

I must agree the Deluxes are worth the extra cost particularly if you can get a discount. What I do not like about the moderates or the values is that you do not have a private outdoor space (patio or balcony) and that people walk in front of your windows to access their rooms. That drives me crazy. You can't leave your curtains open when you are in the room and want some privacy. The only problem is once you go deluxe it is really hard to back to a moderate or value. good luck. Jay

If you check Mary's site Mousesavers.com she always lists the different discount codes and who they available to. I would stay at the BC over CBR, CSR or POR mainly because of the size. Last time we stayed at POR we had quite a little hike to our bus stop and we had to drive up to main building where the store and restuarant was. BC is more compact, I like rooms that can sleep 5 or 6 in our case (their all boys and 1 in diapers, in and out of the bathroom--lol). SAB is a great pool and I love that you can just hop the boat to MGM and Epcot.
