Deluxe vs. Mod w/ 3 and 5 year olds

My family and I (me, dh, and 2 dd's) are headed to the WL in 6 weeks, and I am already busy planning a 2009 trip, too! We are staying at a deluxe this trip because the kids are so little, but for the 2009 trip, they will be 3 and 5, and we are considering staying at a moderate resort then. With kids those ages, should we expect any difficulties (i.e., painfully long bus rides, very small rooms, long walks within the resort) at a mod? Which mods would be the best choices with kids that young?

I stayed at POFQ with two just-turned-4-year-olds and had no regrets (then again, it was our first visit, so I don't know any different). In fact, we're staying there again next spring.

I don't know if this helps you, but we have friends who have a DVC. They go several times a year. Anyway we fretted staying at a value during our upcoming trip. I was told by my friend that when the kids are so small, there isn't much need for a Deluxe. They are much to young to appreciate the perks, and unless you plan to take a few days to enjoy the resort, there isn't a need.
I reconfirmed this with her again the other day...so the point is, a moderate would be just fine!

If I were a child, I would adore the play area at CSR! It would be my entire holiday--no park tickets required! *LOL*

My kids loved all the pools and the sand at CBR, they LOVED the play area at PO (we've stayed at both), we hated CSR (hard beds), and have also loved the ASMo, ASMu, and Pop. I think with kids that young you can't wrong in any place really. My DD LOVED the big room at the Poly and we're staying at the AKL in May because my DS likes the scenery (lol), but if you ask them what their favorite is one will tell you ASMo (because of the big Toy Story characters) and one will say POP (because of the big icons). The rooms ARE small, but we only use them to sleep, change, shower, and a play with whatever they bought at the parks. If we were there alot we'd go with the moderate and if it was a long stay we'd pick a deluxe. IMO the walk is worse in some of the moderates than it is in the values. The buildings in places such as ASM and POP are much closer together than they look on the map. POFQ was very nice, but my walk to the pool at POR was loooong. (They always wanted to play and swim at Ol' Man Island).

Sorry for the long post! I don't think you can wrong with any resort with children that age though.

I stayed at CSR last summer with DS3 and DD7. I'd highly recommend it. I've been to SSR, WL and POR and think CSR has the greatest play area and pool. My 3 year old son loved the Dig Site at CSR. We spent most afternoons at the pool and I think he could have stayed there all day. The only downside I felt to a moderate was if you wanted to go to one of the restaurants and it was raining. We had a couple nights of rainy weather and were in the Cabanas Section and had to walk half way around the lake in the rain. At the WL this was not a problem - just walk down to the lobby to the restaurant. I thought the bus service was much much much better at CSR then the 2 deluxes I've been too. When I was at WL we had to stop at the GF first all the time and the buses seemed slow to arrive there, as well. And when I was at SSR we were the 4th out of 5 stops and often there was standing room only, even mid-morning and we were there a slow time. I also thought POR was nice, although it's been a few years since I've been there so don't remember all the details as well as CSR.
