Hi everyone! I am new to this thread, and I have a few questions. I will be traveling to Disney for the first time with DH, DS,age 5, DD,age 8 and DMIL. I saw a layout for a deluxe room at the WL with 2 queen beds and 1 queen sofa - looked really nice, but pricey. Has anyone stayed in this type of room - it was kind of like a suite - very spacious and almost like separate bedroom areas. Info says @$400.00 / nite. Would you suggest 2 connecting rooms instead? Thanks for your insight on this!

2 connecting rooms at any deluxe will run at least $400 a night. The junior suite is a good option if you all want to be in the same room. Disney won't guarantee connecting rooms, but you can make a requeset when you make your reservation. If you stayed at a moderate or value resort, then 2 rooms would be less than the one deluxe.

Some pros about getting 2 rooms:
2 bathrooms (this is a HUGE plus in my opinion
More privacy
More space (unless you get a huge suite)

You may want to also look into the villas at the Boardwalk, Wilderness Lodge, Beach Club and Old Key West. The come in studios, one bedrooms, two bedrooms and 3 bedroom grand villas. But they can be expensive. I think I'd go with 2 rooms at a moderate, or if you can swing it at a monorail resort like the Polynesian or Contemporary.

Thanks Scanne! The 2 bathroom thing is a REALLY good point! I looked into the rates at the Contemporary, and I was surprised to see some pretty decent rates - $285 / nite - not bad compared to the other deluxes. What do you think of the moderates? I hear good things about PO. Thanks for the reply!

We recently stayed in 2 connecting rooms at AKL. There were 5 of us -myself, DH, DD(9), DS(4) and my mom. With a postcard rate we paid $205/night for savannah view. The kids had bunkbeds, which they loved. We had 2 full bathrooms and lots more space. The Jr Suite at WL would have been $410/night for that time. I think we were much better off with the two connecting rooms. The previous poster mentions they are not guaranteed, which is true. But most of the resorts have quite a few connecting rooms and you would stand a pretty good chance of getting one.
The home away from homes are wonderful, but with the ages of your kids, you would have to get a 2-bedroom. Again, I wasn't able to get any good rates on these, so they were just too pricey for us this time. 4 yrs ago I was able to get a great discount on a 1 bedroom, so there are discounts available on them. And the full kitchen and washer/dryer in the room is a REALLY nice feature.

We are going to be staying in the WL junior suite in December with 3 adults and a 2 yo. I had considered getting us 2 connecting rooms for about the same price but went with the suite so that when the little one goes to bed we can hang out in the living area or balcony without disturbing her. Same goes for mid-afternoon naps - I guess you could do the same with connecting rooms but it is me, DH, and my sister and I didn't want her to feel awkward with hanging out in "our room" so we went with the suite. Also the fridge was a plus for us as well as an extra sink to wash out cups and stuff.

Just some thoughts on the moderate resorts.

I've stayed at Caribbean Beach and Coronado Springs and I visited Port Orleans French Quarter. I would pick Caribbean Beach for a couple of reasons.

1. The rooms are the largest of all the moderates. 340 sq. feet (The others are 314 sq. feet).
2. The resort has recently been refurbished.
3. The theming is similar to the Polynesian in that it is tropical and relaxing.
4. They have a lake, several pools, a playground, a foodcourt and a restaurant. (Most of the mods have this, but I like CB's!)

The other mods are nice, but Coronado Springs is a convention resort and all the convention facilities are attached to the main building. Plus, when we stayed there, it seemed noisy due to a convention. However, the pool at Coronado is really cool! It's a myan pyramid with a water slide. Very neat!

I think the rate you got for the Contemporary sounds good, if it's a tower room and not a wing room. Check out www.mousesavers.com for codes and other discount offers.

You may want to reconsider the DVC resorts (Villas at Wilderness Lodge, Boardwalk Villas, Beach Club Villas and Old Key West). Not only do you get the space, but you'll get a full kitchen and washer/dryer in the unit AND a jacuzzi tub if you're in a one bedroom or larger.

As someone above stated, yes they are pricey to rent - direct from Disney - BUT you can rent points from a DVC owner and typically get those rooms for even less than you'd pay for a room at at deluxe resort. Check out the DVC Rent/Trade board - there's an FAQ at the top that'll give you an idea of how it works.

Does anyone know if a daybed pulls out like a sofabed does? Or is it just the same size as when it is upright?

LoraB - The daybed does not pull out. It is the same size as when it is made up. If the room does have a sleeper sofa, it would specifically state that it is a pull out sofa. There are some rooms at some resorts that do offer that option. Hope this helps!
