Thanks to all who commented on my previous post about mod resorts. All of the womderful information had us sold on CSR :thumbsup2

Until....

Someone pointed us in the direction of the Polynesian (which, if FD is offered, will cost us less than we are paying now for a cars suite at AoA! Our stay is 8-15 Sept).

The resort looks amazing but my question is, is it worth the extra money it costs to stay at the deluxe resort for convenience of its location and monorail service? :confused3

If we upgrade to Polynesian we would save about $250 off what we are paying now at AoA. If we switch to CSR, we will save around $1600 if FD is offered.

WWYD? :)

TIA

Split stay? We're splitting between AKL & POR this year. We haven't been to a Deluxe before - so we HAD to try it! :thumbsup2

No a split stay doesn't appeal to us. Our stay at WDW is part of a month long trip so we are already moving around a fair bit. We try to minimize the amount of moved as much as possible :)

Everyone will give you a different answer. It really depends on your own family and what's important to you.

For us, yes, deluxes are definitely worth it. We enjoy the resort and spend time there. We go to the parks at rope drop, come back at lunchtime, swim and relax at the resort and then head out to dinner.

There are so many things we enjoy with deluxes - indoor corridors, being able to walk, take a water taxi or take the monorail to the parks, wide choice of ts restaurants in the area, enclosed closets, room service, etc.

Not even a question, CSR. Nicer pool, nicer grounds IMO.

If you really want to watch the fireworks from the beach at Poly, you can.

Seriously, 1600 savings for riding the bus 20 mins here and there for 7 days ... Thats not even a question :)

Worth is subjective as it's different for everyone, but with that said, the Poly is definitely worth it to us. Out of the deluxe resorts, we have stayed at AKL, WL, Poly, GF, and BC and the Poly is our favorite. We have had great stays at all of them, but we love the Poly for many reasons. We love the tropical atmosphere, the large rooms, all rooms having a daybed, the beach for watching the fireworks, and a great view of the castle while swimming. We also love being on the monorail as it's not only convenient to MK, but is very convenient to a variety of dining options at the GF and CR. The Poly is also just a 5-7 minute walk from the TTC to catch the Epcot monorail. IMO, the Poly is worth it for a deluxe; however, you're the only one who can decide whether or not it's worth a try for you and your family. Good luck.

Poly over AOA? In a second! A million times yes..yes..yes.::yes::::yes::

Poly over CSR? We have stayed at both..while I LOVE the Poly and don't really love CSR - $1600 is a whole lot of Chocolate Covered Mouse Ears...To be fair, we were at CSR before the room renovations...so it's been a while. :scratchin I would have to think a bit before deciding if the Poly was worth $1600 more than CSR.

I've done Pop and Grand Floridian. This is what I think.....

If you want to save money and you can save hundreds, then no, it's not worth it. But, if it's the price of an AoA room, i'd do it. It was hard staying at Pop (at first) after GF because it was so awesome to have that monorail service, turndown service, and the most beautiful scenery around us. The room was bigger too - that's the biggest perk, IMO!

To me, if you save 500 or more by going value/moderate, i'd do it. For any less, I'd go deluxe. I'd stay there everytime if we had the cash!

Poly is our fav, then CSR! Love them both, but Poly is much more "Disney" to me. Location is amazing as is access to all of the monorail restaurants and parks. But that is a lot of money. When we stay at CSR we always have a car, and driving is really easy (except to MK). You can't go wrong with either!

I would like to see what others say too. We are going in March and I would LOVE to stay at the CR. planning to book POFQ though because its soooo much money. We can afford deluxe, just wondering if it's really worth the splurge.

If you don't mind parting with your $1600, do it!!! It's my dream to stay there, but we were on a budget this time. Or, you can give me the $1600 and I'll stay there and give you a trip report. ;)

For us, we have felt that it was worth it to stay deluxe. We enjoy the interior corridors, larger rooms, location/transportation difference. We also stay club level which we love the convenience of. We spend a decent amount of time at the resort as well.

I should note that we have only stayed deluxe with a great discount though. I wouldn't pay rack rate for it. So, if you have a discount, you should go for it! If you decide after that it wasn't worth it, then so be it. You'll know for next time, but I don't think you would regret the stay. My thought is that you might end up hooked. :goodvibes

I think part of your decision should be to look at how you plan to vacation. If you are going to the park in the morning, stay all day and come back after closing, only using your resort to shower and sleep, it may make more sense to stay at the CSR.

If on the other hand like us, you like to go to RD, tour for the morning, have lunch and then go back to the resort to nap, swim and stop to smell the tropical flowers, you may be happier at the Poly. I have a toddler, so for me it is invaluable to be close to the park, have the ease of the monorail and to be able to relax and enjoy some great resort time. I also want to be able to have an adult night or two so looking forward to taking advantage of the kids club! :yay:

While I do like CSR, I just made the switch today from CSR to the BC. We are another family who does enjoy spending time at the resort as well and do take advantage of the deluxe amenities. I'll also add that we've always been fortunate to get savings via pin codes or other discounts and have never paid full rack rate. If you can swing it, I'd say go for the Poly for sure...it's a gorgeous resort! Good luck!

Is it worth it?
I have to admit, I have pondered this myself and EVERYTIME I book my value resort (which we love btw) I think of all the weekend summer getaways we can go on with the extra $1200. We def like a nice pool and would LOVE the larger rooms or a suite but we only sleep and shower in the room, so the room is not a huge deal for us. We also don't use the spas and the 1 time we upgraded to CBR, we never used the extras such as bikes, boats, etc even though I was convinced we would. (btw, we hated CBR)
As much as I would love to experience a deluxe, I could really think of a million other things we can do with the extra $$. Plus, this year I was planning on upgrading to AKL or YC and my kids and husband still want AOA because it "looks like Disney" .......
One day......one day......I will be at a deluxe......:hourglass

We are doing Deluxe for the first time in a couple weeks. Before kids I wouldn't even pay the price to stay at Disney, but last trip with ODS we decided to stay at POFQ. This trip the plan was POR but I was worried about how small the room is and everyone kept telling me how incredibly convenient it is to stay near the Boardwalk or monorail resorts so you can walk right back to your resort for naptimes and breaks. At first I planned a split stay and then changed to BC the whole trip. Then we decided to get APs and plan a second trip and used the AP discount to upgrade to club level. So now we are spending $1800 more to stay Deluxe.

I sure hope its worth it. For us this is likely a once in a lifetime splurge and we almost never splurge anywhere. I spend so much time being frugal about everything I just thought it would be really nice to go all out for once.

And when we return in the spring we will be back to the mods again.

I do not like the Poly $1600 more than CSR. I just don't. I had a very nice time at the Poly but not nice enough to justify the price tag and I left feeling a little sick about what I had spent. I am glad I did it once, but I feel the price is so inflated that it's laughable.

That's just me. I will happily rent points to stay at the Deluxes, and we love CSR and POR, but I would not spend 1600 more for the Poly as that could go straight back into the budget for the next trip.:)

Having stayed at both the Poly and Csr, to me I would not pay $1600 more.

And believe me, Csr is every bit as appealing for midday breaks as the Poly. Csr hasva better main pool, more quiet pools, a true hottub, lovely grounds, athletic club and spa. This is not just a place to sleep and shower!

We love the Poly, but for us its very overpriced. Still I do not regret staying there, but five years and many trips later, I haven't returned.

For us it has been about 8 years since we stayed POLY because everyone said with a baby you must stay on the rail. We had a great time but we have been to many different resorts since then and had great times there and we do spend time at the resort. So for us it is an easy decision $1600 is another long weekend trip for us, we would choose CSR. I would choose Poly over AOA.

I have done one deluxe stay and really liked it. However not enough to pay more than what I'm currently paying at a MOD. I did not really take advantage of a lot of the perks that are part of Deluxes so unless I'm getting a good discount then I'm staying at a MOD which matches up with the perks/advantages that I do like for a price I am comfortable paying.

All things being the same price wise if a Deluxe was the same price as a MOD then I'd stay at the Deluxe.

If however you are choosing the FS because you have more than 4 or because you need a seperate sleeping place I'd stick with AoA. For all the hype the deluxe room has just a little more room SQ foot wise but is still just a single room with only a door between everyone and the toliet and with both beds 3 feet apart, if you put a kid down you're pretty much down for the evening as well.
