Deluxe Plan and DDE Card

I have a couple of questions. We are purchasing APs (upgrading tickets upon arrival) and are taking part in free dining for our September trip. We are going again in December. For the Sept trip, it will be DH, me, DS3, DS1 and DMIL. We are all staying together on the free dining plan. Question 1-is it worth it for us to "upgrade" to the deluxe dining plan? My thought there is by getting more food included in the plan, we wouldn't have to order a kid's meal for the baby at each restraunt. Do you think it's worth it? I don't want our trip to be focused on ADRs but I also like the idea of paying for the dining plan (or not if we don't upgrade) and having a really good idea of what we're paying for food budget wise.

Question 2. On the Dec trip, DMIL is not going. For this trip I would like to use the DDE card for this trip. Can I still use the DDE card for anything we would pay for OOP on the Sept trip? Also, can everyone in the party use the DDE card if we're all eating together (i.e. will DMIL get 20% off her meal if she's eating with us)?

We upgraded to the Deluxe Dining plan. We're big on trying things and some of the best dishes are sometimes appetizers. We also wanted a lot of credits to enjoy more two credit service places. We probably are not saving as much money in terms of % off of what we would pay out of pocket if we just didn't use the DDP, but it is nicer in terms of budgeting not to have to worry about it.

The DDE is valid for a year so you can buy it in September and use it again in December. If you are using DDP for your meals you can use DDE for anything that is not covered by the DDP - just ask for 2 separate checks. The DDE can be used by up to 10 people at a time so yes your MIL's meal would be included.

Just a heads up. Unless your kids eat like horses, you probably don't need to buy them food. You can feed the little one off your plate, and the meals are pretty big everywhere you go. The kids could very easily share with one another... the kids meals are huge. (My dd couldn't finish all her meals and she was 8yo) I like the Dx, but I wouldn't upgrade if that is the major reason for doing so.
