Minijeanie, as long as you don't expect the Pop Century to be like a Deluxe Resort, you should be okay. I have stayed at the Pop Century twice now and have really enjoyed my stays there. Make sure to read through the PC FAQ thread to get familiar with the resort before your arrival.

Have a wonderful vacation.

I agree with Janet. Just expect (hopefully!) a clean room with Disney Theming. Picture a Comfort Inn (or equivelant), but on disney property with a food court.

Hi there!

I've been wondering the same thing myself. We're leaving for a split stay Pop/VWL.

I can't wait to stay at the Pop.

I'll post when we get back.

We've stayed deluxe & moderate & we loved POP. I think all the hotels at DW offer a unique experience & not one of them is bad. POP has a great theme & my kids loved the pop jets. The food court was crowded at peak times & especially after park closing. The quiet pool in the 50s section was not crowded during the day & we were able to find plenty of lounge chairs. This was August & the resort was at full capacity. Rooms were a bit small, but I didn't think significantly smaller than a moderate. We were fine as a family of four. People complain of thin walls, I didn't notice any noise. Maybe we were lucky & had great neighbors? Oh & the bus service was great, we never waited more than a few minutes at POP but leaving the parks, the lines were usually long but moved quick. If the bus was standing room only, we just waited for the next one which was always right behind. Anyway, just MHO but I don't think a Quality Inn, Motel 6, or whatever hold a candle to the beautiful pool & bar area, friendly CM's and wonderful theming. Don't expect a huge room, valet parking, or room service & you will have fun!

Personally I think the bus service is pretty good at POP...it doesn't share buses with any other resort and only has one bus stop, and you can't get that with a deluxe other than the Animal Kingdom Lodge. The only issue might be the length of the line to get on the bus.

I thinka s long as you keep your expectations realistic, you will be fine! Expect POSSIBLY a longer line at check in, and to take your bags to your own room unless you are willing to wait 1-2 hours for bell services to do so.
If you go during peak eating times, expect the food court to be full, crowded and NOISY with LOTS of screaming children, but the check out lines move briskly. Try to avoid the 90's building unless you enjoy numerous daily hikes.
I find the deluxe resorts to be much more "hushed" in atmosphere than teh values, but I don't find the values to be obnoxious.
PC IS my fave value resort! Be sure to eat some of teh grilled flatbread things in the food court. QUITE good!

I stayed at POP a few weeks ago for the free dining promotion and was pleasantly surprised. When we checked in the line was very long and slow. This is because of Magical Express, everyone checking in at the same moment. I though uh oh! After that all was well. It was only 4 nights too. We were in the 50's building, a lot of walking, but it was clean, quiet and so cheap! LOL The main differnece was the fact the buses left you so far from the front of the parks. It seemed like such a hike. You get what you pay for I guess. Other then that the buses are fine! The theming is great too. You'll enjoy, I promise! :goodvibes

Dh and I stayed at Pop before moving to WL in July. Neither of us had ever stayed in a value. We both were surprised by how much we enjoyed Pop!! Of course, this was a trip where we were not lingering at our resort. Most of our time was spent out-and-about. When we returned for MNSSHP with the kids, we decided to give ASMu a try. While I personally prefer the deluxe resorts with the kids (There's just more to do at the resort.), our kids really, really liked the informality of ASMu. We're giving Sports a try at the beginning of our Christmas trip.

If you go with the right expections you will be okay. The rooms at the Pop are going to be much smaller than the rooms at the deluxe resorts. The values are much bigger than the deluxes and the only source of transportation is the buses so just be prepared to deal with buses that could be rush hour type crowded at peak times.

This post reminds me of a review that I read on the mouseforless website about the value resorts. The snobbish woman who wrote called the values the projects as her and her husband rode by the entrance way as they were going to one of the deluxe resorts. Don't worry the the thieves and poor people probably won't bother you much at all. Please be nice to them and throw them your leftover food. Just amazing. I think to begin your thread by stating that you are a deluxe person is so obnoxious. What exactly is a deluxe person anyways?? There are fine people like myself and my family who chose to spend less on our disney trip by staying at a value resort. Both me and my husband make a good living wage, have a beautiful home, and drive nice vehicles. So to say one is a deluxe person is actually obnoxious in itself.

Lisa (stayed at All Star Sports in September and will be staying there again, and don't considered myself anything shorter than a great human being)

:cloud9: Lisa,
I don't think that the OP meant any harm or jab at you or anyone else who loves the all-stars.

I think the point is that there are some REALLY snobby people out there, like those I've seen consistently posting about disney places on tripadvisor.com, about how for the $70 they spent at an all-star, they could have had a great hotel off property and the like.

I guess it's all in your interpretation. I read the OP as though she was sort of embarrased because she had heard all those bad reports that the All-stars were horrible, and now she was second guessing her decision. I read it to be that she was nervous, and needing reassurance that it would be a great time, not that she was demeaning anyone who stayed there.

I myself will be at ASMu in January.

try not to feel offended....
especially when she doesn't seem to have meant any harm?

I hope everyone is having a great weekend!
-Tina.

Oh please, why are you getting so upset. Didn't mean to offend anyone. To each his own I say.

I have read many threads on here where people will stay no where else but values.. likewise I have read that many people will stay no where else but mods and so on and so on.

I am not snobbish at all. You took it in the wrong context and If I offended you I apologize.

I am not taking a car this time for my short trip and using magic express instead. I was more interested in bus service to the different parks.

Deluxe for me is the ability to stay close to a park so you can either walk or boat to it. If pop century had that ability, I would be there every year.

So my meaning of deluxe is different than someone else's.
We should all take each other's post with a grain of salt. Writing comes off so different and disected in so many different ways.

and btw, I switched my room to Port Orleans Riverside... - I liked the fact that I could boat to DD.

So thanks for all your responses and I will keep pop in mind for our next trip

I really can't believe the people who call the original poster snobby. I can tell you now that I would be extremely unlikely to stay in a value, and would be pushed to stay in a mod again, but that is my choice. I prefer a hotel with more facilities and amenities, but it is my choice how I spend my money, just as it is the choice of others how they spend theirs.

To the OP, I havrn't stayed at a value before, but obviously you can expect fewer amenities and a lower price - shouldn't matter too much if it is a short trip. And just think of all the cash you will be saving.

One thing about POP that is interesting vs deluxe. I own at VWL and have stayed at AKL. The TV's are so tiny! Come on Disney! Televisions have gotten so inexpensive! At the Pop it is a 27 inch. Now you may say how much TV do you watch at Disney? I for one watch the news when I am getting ready to go out. Nice not to squint~! So the values have something up on the deluxes!! :goodvibes
I'm sure the little ones watch cartoons etc while everyone is getting ready!

I hope you don't mind a long and I mean long hike to the main building from just about all of the rooms at POR AKA Dixie Landings. People complain about the values being a long hike POR is way worse for that IMHO. The grounds are nice there but it is the retirement home of the moderates just like OKW is the retirement home of the DVC and deluxe resorts. We are DVC members and to be honest our favourite resorts on property are the All Stars we try and stay there every trip even if just for the weekends there is nothing like the atmosphere of a value resort all teh excitement from the families and the nois of the kids enjoying a trip to Disney that IMHO is what Disney is all about.

Yep - our group of 13 had a taste of All-Star, Polynessian and Boardwalk couple weeks ago. I believe they all (disclaimer: Poly non-remodeled and Boardwalk bedroom only) all have less than a 27 inch TV. So there you go. pirate:

OP I think you will like Riverside much more than POP :)

And to LakeAriel-
Tell me about it when it comes to the TV's. We did a split stay at POP and ASSports and sports had such a small TV too :)
