deluxe DP - kids using adult menu??

When the 2016 dining plans were released, just about every Disney forums said that part of the new deluxe DP would include allowing kids to choose adult items. However, this is not indicated on the official brochure from Disney. Has anyone tried this? Does anyone have a picture of a receipt showing meals left for the deluxe plan which may indicated that there will be no differentiation between adults and kids? My kids hate the children menus. I don't know why Disney thinks kids like hot dogs and chicken nuggets.

Thank you

According to the first post in the "Changes to Dining Plans May-June 2015":

  • "Those guests on either the Deluxe, the Premium, of the Platinum Dining Plans will now be able to mix their adult and child credits. This means that if a guest on the dining plan has two adults and two child meal entitlements, they may choose to select four adult entree options, if they would like. Those on the regular Disney Dining Plan will not have this option and a child entitlement must still be used for a child meal."

But that change has never been reported by an official source and the latest brochure continues to state that children must order from the children's menu.

On my recent trip earlier this month, I did the DxDP with my child for a 1 night stay. We ate at Coral Reef and Brown Derby. Both servers said my child could order his appetizer, entree and dessert from the adult menu. At Coral Reef, he ordered his dessert from the adult menu and at Brown Derby he ordered all 3 courses from the adult menu. YMMV, but the servers at both restaurants said this is now allowed.

Heres another question that I have been wondering that sort of goes the opposite way. The next time we go to Disney my ASD son who happens to be a very picky eater will be 10. According to Disney he is now an "adult". So my question is on some of the non buffet restaurants he would probably rather order off the adult menu anyways, but when we eat at some of the more adventurous restaurants could he still order off the kids menu?

Yes, he can. If you are using his adult credit you can ask if it is possible to upsize the entree, especially if he has a good appetite. Conversely, if he only wants the kids' portion you can pay out of pocket for his meal and save his adult credit for a 2 credit meal or additional meals.

Once in a while someone will post that a restaurant or server adhered to the age limit on the menu so it is best to ask first, but in general you will be able to order from the kids' menu at most table service restaurants.

I would like to see a picture of entitlements too. I'm so afraid of ordering an adult entree and then not having enough credits later on!

They're listed on every receipt.
I know but what OP and I are asking for is after the change and for deluxe dining plan how they are listed because we don't want to order an adult meal for our child and wind up with not enough adult credits. I'd like to see if they show up pooled like QS.

They already do on the deluxe plan. This has not changed. Deluxe credits have always been pooled.

If you want the regular dining plan's table service credits to show up in one pool, I don't think that's going to happen. Remember that the plan details and brochure are still very clear that children must order off the children's menu in all cases.

Yes this is what I was asking about was the second part. I will probably just end up ordering for my son off the children's menu because I'm worried well be charged wrong otherwise and run out of credits

Oh wait so table service is pooled on deluxe? Just not regular? Thanks for the clarification

The deluxe plan has "meal" credits; they are not distinguished between table our counter service. And, yes, all credits are pooled on the deluxe plan.

Counter service credits are also pooled on the regular and quick service plan. Children are allowed to order an adult counter service meal at locations that don't have a children's menu.

Ok perfect! That's exactly what I needed to know thanks!

We just arrived home today, and I plan on posting a summary of our experience on the deluxe plan soon. As far as ordering off the adult menu, some places let us know that a child could order anything. We also paid for a few kids meals to save some of the credits. It was very clear that they only keep track of total credits, not kids and adults. At one meal (Teppan Edo), after they explained what the choices were for kids, I asked if we could just use an adult credit based on what the child wanted to order. They said that was fine, and the four year old ordered swordfish off the adult menu as well as an appetizer. Overall, on the deluxe plan, we did not have any issue using most credits for adults or having the kids ordering adult meals.

Thank you Sendaler. That is what I was hoping to hear for an answer. My girls are "foodies" and didn't care for the traditional kids menus. I don't mind paying the extra for the deluxe if the girls aren't forced to eat hot dogs. I look forward to hearing about your trip.
