Does anyone know if delta will allow a backpack as a personal item? I plan to have my carry on luggage plus my back pack, they list purse, briefcase, laptop case as a personal item just want to make sure the backpack will be ok, leave in 4 days from Louisville,KY.

Thanks

A backpack can be boder line. Just how big is it?

If it is not too stuffed and will fit under your seat you can probably pull it off. It is is bigger than the average computer bag, you might be in trouble. I actually find Delta ok to deal with, but lately some of the security people have just been "heXX on wheels" about luggage!

I recently read an article in the Washington Post that listed what was accepted. It stated that a backpack was NOT a personal item. (I believe it listed purse, computer, camera, diaperbag as personal items). A lot of airlines are enforcing the limited. If it will fit under the seat in front of you I wouldn't worry too much. I carry mine which will fit under the seat, but I don't carry anything else, so know that I'm within the requirements. If you're in doubt, email them--that way you can take the email with you if it's accepted.

the backpack is no bigger than my laptop (not taking it), it will not be stuffed will just contain two raincoats, ticket holder, sunglasses. It will easily fit under the seat. Most likely will weigh less and fit better than some purses I have seen, LOL.

My kids carried on backpacks this past July on Delta flights with no problem.

When in doubt call the airline. It will save you time in the long run and you won't have to worry about it.

Or...........................go to the site and read under FAQs.

Domestic U.S. Baggage Allowances
Beginning August 15, 2002 on domestic flights, Delta accepts a maximum of two checked baggage items free of charge for each ticketed passenger, in addition to the one carry-on, plus one personal item.

Check two bags and carry on one bag, plus one personal item

Additional baggage may be accepted for an excess baggage fee. All baggage must meet the size and weight limits. Luggage carts count toward your bag allowance.

We may limit the amount of excess baggage when such excess prevents us from carrying each traveler's free baggage allowance.

Personal items
In addition to the one carry-on item, you can still bring one personal item such as:

a male or female purse
a briefcase
a computer bag
a camera case
a diaper bag
or items of a similar size
Additional items
The following may be brought in addition to what is listed above and does not count towards your allowance:
food item for immediate consumption
assistive devices such as wheelchairs or crutches, provided passenger is dependent on them
one box or bag of duty free
child restraint device
coat jacket
umbrella
one item of reading material

Thanks everyone, I know it is of similar size. Well only 2 days left and the packing is complete, can' wait.
