Delta vs. United

I've never flown Delta. I'm pricing fares for our February 2006 trip (2/10 or 11 to 2/18). They are within about $10 of each other (still high, but . . .).

The Delta flights would be Lansing to Cincinnati to Orlando (not through Atlanta). The United flights would be Lansing to Chicago to Orlando. Delta's total time is a couple of hours shorter, which is a definite plus to me. Both airlines seem to be doing a lot of schedule shuffling right now, so neither gets a nod there.

All things generally equal, what airline would you fly or recommend?

I appreciate the Dis community's wisdom!

Be careful with Delta...they filed chapter 11 bankruptcy, so may be doing a lot more serious flight shifting and cancelling as time goes by. I'm flying home on Delta on 12/31, and I believe myself to be in the safe zone, but I've heard hints on the evening news around here that after the first of the year, all bets are off. Keep your ear to the ground.

United may also be shaking things up. Also, flying through Chicago during winter isn't my cup of tea -- I much prefer Cincinnati.

I agree with Bicker and just for the record UAL has been flying "under bankruptcy protection" for almost 3 years now. So, IMO the bankruptcy situation for Delta should not be a factor in your flight plans. Schedule changes? Anyones guess. :confused3

I'd go with DL thru Cincy. As Bicker said flying thru Chicago in winter can be very hard.

O'Hare has one of the worst "on time" flight ratios in the country. And gate to gate connections can be VERY far apart. So, if you go with United, be sure you have adequate connection time -- a minimum of 1 hour, but 2 is much safer at that airport. I'd go with Delta and Cincinnati -- in fact I did with my Dec. trip. Do, however, keep a close eye on your reservations so that you can call right away if wierd changes happen and get a more convenient flight option while seats are still available.

I almost got stuck overnight in chicago a few years ago on my way home from disney. I would avoid chicago if at all possible.
