Thinking about going down for one night at the end of the month to do a couple days of FOA at Epcot with my teenage daughter. My husband has like 12,000 Delta Sky Miles, can he buy me a RT tip that is like 10,000 miles? Can my teenager use her Sky Miles to buy herself a ticket too?

And anyone know what or about the cancellations now with Delta?

You'll need to go to the Delta site, search your dates, and select redeem miles. That will show you what's available and how many miles it will require.

I’m a delta sky miles member and I believe for every 10000 miles it knocks off 100 dollars.

Unlikely. You might get lucky and get a basic economy one way for 10,000.

Delta SkyMiles have been devalued over the years. What used to be 25,000 (& still is with other programs) is now more often than not 35,000.

Ok, I must be looking at it completely wrong then, who knows? I will go and double check.

You’re getting a lucky off day. I did a search for next month, a Wednesday and Saturday and it’s 17.

But yes, your husband can use his SkyMiles to purchase a ticket for whoever he wants. Your daughter can use her SkyMiles too. But what you can’t do (at least not without paying a decent amount of $$ for) is transfer SkyMiles.

So let’s say your daughter has 8,000 and your husband has 12,000 and each ticket is 10,000. Your husband can get one for 10,000 and put whatever name on the ticket he wants. He cannot transfer his remaining 2,000 miles to your daughter without a fee.

Is the question just, can your husband use his miles to get you a ticket? Yes, not a problem.

And as long as your daughter isn’ at young teen (i.e. she doesn’t full under the unaccompanied minor age), I don‘t see a problem with her using her own miles for her own ticket.

I’d then call to have the two reservations linked - otherwise, they don‘t know that you’re travelling together and, if there are any changes, don’t know to make the same changes to both of your flights. It doesn’t always work, but at least you give yourself a fighting chance.

I found numerous days like that. But I don't doubt your word.

I looked too. I see what you see - every day the week of 24-Jan has 5,000 point (or 4,500 for Basic economy) available.

ETA - for January, all but three days have 4,500 points (for Basic) as the lowest point price.

Well, I guess anything is possible right now until things begin to stabilize. This time last year, you’d never find anything remotely close to that. Delta made the decision several years ago that they weren’t going to try to compete with low cost carriers, especially on routes out of ATL. Back when AirTran was eating their lunch, they did a lot of international expansions to find places where AirTran couldn’t go. They stopped selling seats at $49 for ATL-MCO because the problem was that you can’t sell the $950 ticket from whatever far away place to Orlando if you already gave up that last leg seat for $49.

There we go. Yes, that was the question. But ya, my 16-year-old, she has enough miles for her a one-way, but I will have to see about how to book that.

So ya reckin I ought to jump on it today, lol?

I believe all cancellations booked with SkyPesos right now are fully refundable in the event of cancellation. I just looked it up, all domestic flights booked after August 8th are able to cancelled right up to departure time with a full refund of points.

I would. As a follow up to what I also said about transferring miles. So I take it you mentioned your husband and daughter mileage balances because she doesn’t have enough. As I said, you can always use your miles to book whoever you want. But you can’t transfer them without a fee. It’s 1 cent per mile plus $30.

:rotfl: :rotfl: Yes, I remember reading that they are referred to as Pesos because they are virtually worthless. But at the moment, my huband has enough for me a RT ticket, and I have enough for my daughter a one way ticket and then she has enough for a one way back ticket. I think I will book with them today. Get my Pesos worth while I can, lol. Probably be one of the few times that they will be worth anything.

Like every other frequent flyer currency what you can get for it can change drastically. In 2019 I got RT tix MSP-MCO for 17,000 points each. When I was looking pre-pandemic at MSP-CDG for my 40th birthday this coming year it was 50,000 for Comfort+. It's never going to be like it was 10-20 years ago but there are still deals to be had. With such small amounts as you seem to have it is certainly more difficult.

Ya, I know they are worthless. But hey, this month, me and my daughter can get to Orlando for a couple nights for almost 100% free, so why not?
