I got free passes to the Sky Club when I got my Delta credit card (which I got for the free luggage feature). I have a 2 plus hour layover in Detriot. Can anyone here tell me about that sky club or what others are like? It's going to be around 7am - will they have food and drinks available? Televisions? Wi-fi so I can play with my new Ipod? Are children allowed in Sky Clubs? (I run a day car so I'm hoping the answer is no).

Any information is appreciated. I'm traveling to Orlando alone and don't really want to shop the airport.

There are four locations. At that hour, I think all four are open. The "main" one is in the middle of A concourse. The others are at both ends of A, and between B and C. Comfortable chairs, usually a couple TVs (generally tuned to the politically neutral CNN, but sometimes showing golf/football/whatever). There are also some cubicles if you need an environment more conducive to work. Very light snacks, open bar with a modest selection of liquor and a couple of mediocre wines. If you need "real food", you probably want to get it elsewhere. Wifi available. Kids are allowed, but there are not many of them, and they are usually well behaved. I take mine with me if I'm traveling with them, but they know they are under "library rules" when they are there. Most others do too.

Yes, children are allowed. (sorry!) Most parents are pretty good about keeping them under control, but there's always the risk you will get the idiots who think "Everyone wants to watch Johnny make tons of noise and carry on" :confused3

There will be breakfast "snacks" (mini muffins, small yogurt, nuts etc)

Wifi is there, but it's provided by T-mobil and it's pretty bad! (I have no idea why providing BAD wi-fi is thier idea of "advertising" LOL!)

You might want to check the fine print on the passes regarding children/guests. Regular membership entitles you to bring family members with you, but I believe each day pass is for one person only -- no guests or family members.

OP is trying to avoid children, not bring them.

As to wifi performance...I was just in the main club this morning, and it seemed adequate. I wasn't streaming video (or even music) but was moving around some largish email attachments. Better than most neighborhood cafes, probably not as good a your home or office.

Yep!

Thanks to all for the information. Now that I know I have somewhere to hang out comfortably I don't have to research places to shop.

Two hours really isn't that long of a layover. If you have future travel plans that may include longer layovers I would think twice and save it. If you are one to indulge in adult beverages you may want to wait till you are connecting on an evening itinerary and just plan on grabbing a paper and a coffee from an airport merchant and chilling in the food court for an early connection.

You don't mention what day of the week you are traveling but if it is a Monday morning you may find a more peaceful place than the club. Monday AM is prime biz travel time and I have sometimes walked into a club and could hardly find a seat.
