Boo! I had been watching delta airfare for april $185 a tix. Then from this morning to this afternoon $239. I guess I will keep watching for an airfare sale. It doesn't make sense the flight we wanted had only 3 tickets sold to it.

How do you know only 3 tickets have been sold? Are you looking at the seating chart? If so, that is not a reliable way to see how many seats have sold or are open. Additionally they could have set aside 5 seats at the $185.00 price and then 15 seats at the $239.00 price, etc, etc. Remember, the bargain prices don't pay the bills, they offer the prices to fill the seats, sure, but they are also counting on filling more seats at higher prices to actually make a profit.

Delta (Northwest) has been very frustrating lately. I have been watching prices for about three months for my daughter's senior trip during Easter break. I need four tickets from Detroit to Orlando, but three on one day and one a day later. I finally booked the three tickets last week for $345, which is more than twice what I usually pay, but I understand it's at Easter time. My daughter and her friend are going to miss one day extra of school so we could leave on Wednesday and get a cheaper fare. But my son who is going so I have someone to keep me company, is a teacher and there is no way he can get off from school that earlier day, so he is coming on Thursday. A couple of days ago, the flight I want to book for him was $504 and today it is over $1,000. I know over the weekend they were working on the Northwest web site and the fares were ridiculously high - over $1,700. Half of the Northwest site is still Northwest, but part sends you to Delta. I wanted to check my seat locations and when I clicked on the link, it took me to Delta and I couldn't find a picture of the inside of the plane like they have on Northwest. I am really going to miss Northwest when it completely changes to Delta which I'm guessing is any day now. Delta has already raised their checked bag fee from $15 to $23 for the first checked bag.

I will miss northwest as well. I loved having nonstop flight to MCO from Minneapolis, Delta likes to have a stop in Atlanta. We live by the airport here which was the Northwest headquarters, it was sad to see them paint the hanger w/ delta logo.

$239 round trip is an absolute bargain fare. I would consider booking it.

Does anybody know if you book a delta ticket and the price drops will they refund the difference???

apparantly, in the form of a credit but all sorts of restrictions on if the fare qualifies, anyone have experience w/ this??

That is frankly an unrealistic expectation to fly $151 cross country on a mainline carrier. There are still a few bargains, but carriers are losing billions and billions of dollars in America, and fares have to rise at some point.

Anything under $300 round trip is still a bargain fare.

I agree with Bavaria. $239 is a good price. I paid about that for each of for round trip air fare to MCO from Portland, ME on a direct flight. I was pleased with the price especially when the flights were direct and at a time that I really wanted. April is a heavy travel time with various schools' spring breaks. I don't think the airfare is going to come down much.

We paid $239, non-stop, round trip flight from Boston to Tampa last May when the fares became avaliable; for our upcoming April 2010 school vacation week trip.:banana::banana:
Today, the fare for that same flight goes for $1,500 each. :scared1:
I'll start looking for April 2011 tickets in May, I'd be thrilled to pay only $239 again. :surfweb:
Good Luck All,
Joe

If the fare on Delta goes down it will cost you $150/ticket to change it. We called about that last year and that was what we were told. It would have to be one big drop in price to make it worthwhile.

I couldn't agree more. We here in Boston would KILL for that fare on our April school vacations. I'd grab it before it goes even higher.

My daughter is a college student in Georgia, and we've been watching fares daily from SAV to PHL as she really wanted to come home for spring break (her dorms remain open, so she would stay if the fares weren't in my "reasonable" category).

For weeks and weeks they've fluctuated between $350-400. Her airfare home for Thanksgiving/Christmas ran $320, but she flew back on NY Weekend. So, I set her benchmark at $250 total RT, taxes included.

Almost simultaneously we checked Delta's site this afternoon and found fares at $208...with tax? $250. Snapped it up!

Considering other carriers want upwards of $400 RT, I think $250 is a huge bargain.

If you're booking the lowest fare, you will be assessed a change fee before being able to recoup any difference in fares. The fees are usually around $150/ticket.

It shocks me that SW and Airtran offer a refund if the fair decreases, but for most air carriers this is not the case, and change fees apply, often wiping out any possible credit of difference in fares.

I find that northwest is the airline making delta worse, delta used to be so nice to me, they had pre boarding for families with children the flight attenents were always nice and offering to help one even offered to sit with my daughter so i could use the rest room (i refused i have this thing about getting up on amoving plane i don't do it, i hate flying). as soon as north west came into deltas picture no more preboarding for families the flight attendents became total crap (i mean really terrible... there was one incident where they watched me struggle to get my carry on down their isle while holding my sleeping daughter... no mind i know this is my problem, but they didn't just watch me the LAUGHED OUT LOUD AT ME asked if i knew how to work a suit case... i said well maybe if my husband wasn't in the military and keeping you safe and allowed to take leave to visit family then i would have someone who could help me (they had jsut before we landed thanked the "all members of the military") and he really appreciates their heart felt thanks and how kind they are to military families... one of them appologized and the other two just stared at me like i had something growing on my head.

The vast majority of carriers do not permit family preboarding anymore - studies show that it slows down boarding considerably, and thus most carriers have families board in their assigned sequence, based on status and seat assignment.

I think I solved half of the problem we will pay 120 to fly out on delta nonstop (the flight times are perfect), and then 92 to fly back on airtran nonstop, plus 10 off airtran little debbie voucher and I cut my overnight price increase from $55 to 17. Now I am going to take everybodys advise and be happy that the price is not higher! Thanks for listening to me vent on here about price increases at a moments notice.

So booked my tix ended up being $202

This is how we manage to find a good deal, just keep checking. Our rates usually run about $300-350 from OKC to MCO, with one stop (there are no non-stops currently). But sometrimes, we happen upon a special that just runs for a day or even a few hours and get a flight for $250 or so. We jump on those! Just have to be ready!

BTW, we do consider a $250 flight from OKC to MCO a steal. Not complaining about that rate. In fact, I may consider a $300 rate a steal this coming December for our trip!

Delta is the only airline I have flown in over 20 years and they haven't had pre boarding in a very long time.
