Delta plane crash in Lexington.

Yes, it was the longer runway (22) that was repaved. But the shorter runway (26) interesects (22) almost immediately. The longer runway (22) was also extended on each end...so that the entry ramp to the runway has changed...and is even closer now to (26).

I'm not saying this was the cause. It's just hard to beileve that this could happen...and I was trying to make sense of it.

It's been a while since I flew out of LEX, so I was trying to get it straight in my head how the runways are. My only real knowledge of it now is admiring the murals as we pass by on our way through to Mason County.

It is definitely hard to wrap your brain around this one, that's for sure. :(

We spent the weekend down close to you, Madge, but live right across from the high school near the airport. We've been watching the news and I can't see any possible way that this plane was on the correct, longer runway. DH and I are also wondering if last weekend's repaving project has any bearing on this??? The airport has been open since early Monday AM with no problems...

I'm a little unclear about what role the air traffic controller has in all of this. I understand the plane was given the all clear for takeoff and after 6:05am there wasn't any more contact with the plane. If this has already been answered by the media coverage, I'm sorry for missing it - Louisville TV has gone back to regular programming.

KYCAT, I am, so sorry about your friends. I can't even imagine the sorrow of all this after so much joy last night. At least your friends were married and had the happiness of that one special night plus they were together. My thoughts are with them and everyone else who was aboard plus their family and friends. My prayers are with you.

I've been watching coverage since this AM. Just so hard to believe that this is all happening so close to home. My DSIL lives in Lexington (close to Fayette Mall) and I can only imagine how things are there today.

Its also a little surreal because those are the exact types of planes we fly in when we go to WDW on Delta. Its frightening seeing the picture of the plane on TV knowing that's what we always fly.

kycat-- :grouphug: How awful. I can't imagine how you must be feeling today.

A high school friend of mine was the pilot on this flight, and I am so sad to learn of his loss. He was a kind and good man, and had a 3 year old and a 6 month old at home. Truly tragic.

Horrible....Although we rarely see a horiffic event like this in the US, it really reminds us how valuble our lives are and how quickly they can change. My prayers go out to those effected....

Reports are that the co-pilot was pulled out through the broken cockpit window by one of the first law enforcement officers to arrive at the scene.

apparently the officer that pulled him out of the plane has significant burns on his arms, as well.

a day later, and I'm still stunned :(

OMG! I didn't know a thing until I read it here. My prayers are will all who are suffering, departed and in need right now. I am so sorry for the losses and pain for the families left behind.

My thoughts and prayers are with the families also. It is very tragic, and to think some of those on board had little kids and spouses at home! My grandmother passed away about a month ago, and it is a long grieving process to go through! When a close family member passes away, it makes you realize how important loved ones are! In fact, since my grandmother passed, my husband has been spending more time with me and my kids. He works all the time! I think the death of my grandmother really changed his tune! Life is too short to worry about the little things. Enjoy every minute you can!

Kycat:

So sorry about the couple that lost their lives.

It still seems so hard to believe. We live close to the airport as well.

I hope that steps can be taken that no commercial flight will make the same mistake again.

Again, so sorry.

I am saying a prayer for all of you that have lost a friend or loved one as well as the many other people that have been affected by this tragedy.
