Just looking for everyones thoughts to the friends and family of the recent plane crash this morning of Comair CRJ at Lexington Airport. Looks like there are many fatalities but nothing confirmed of yet. The aircraft was an unconfirmed CRJ-100 with 50 souls on board. No known reason for the crash, there was no severe weather in the area, have to wait a couple days to find out the reason for the crash. :sad1:

My thoughts and prayers go out to the families of these individuals. I hate that this happended at all let alone in my backyard.

Yea, I just read about it myself, I am so sorry for the families, really makes me want to get on a plane now. :guilty:

My thoughts and prayers are with their families, too. I've been glued to CNN for the last few hours. There is only one survivor, who is in critical condition.

Unconfirmed and unofficial reports that the survivor is either the pilot or co-pilot.

Very Sad indeed and yes the co-pilot or first officer was the one who survived. All indications point to the pilot taking off on the wrong runway as in the short short runway R 8-26 which was only 3.5K Long. It's hard for me to believe that the ATC wasn't looking out the tower when the a/c departed and for the Pilot not to realize he was departing on the wrong runway. Truly sad.

RIP DL 5191!!!!

It's all very sad.

I attended a wedding last night. That couple were supposed to be on board. :sad2:

I live 6 miles from the airport and have seen the accident area. There's no doubt about it...they tried to depart on the wrong runway. A runway with NO lights. I fly out of there quite often...and the only excuse I can think of...is that the runway was repaved last weekend...and perhaps the markings were not as clearly marked.

Again...very sad

I'm so sorry that couple you knew was on board...my thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of this tragedy. :sad1: :grouphug:

CBS just broke in and confirmed that it was the wrong runway. My thoughts and prayers for everyone involved.

KYCat,
Was that the John Hooker wedding?

My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of those affected.

I am so sorry for your loss. I also have been glued to FOX news and it is such a tragedy :sad2: . I just hope that the one survivor makes it and will be okay.

My thoughts and prayers to all of the family and friends of all who were on board that flight.

Any word on how the co-pilot was able to survive and the others were not? Such a tragedy.

I too live pretty close to the airport, off Mason Headley. I was awake at the time of the crash, but didn't hear anything. Sorry about your friends who were on board. I'm afraid most of us will discover we knew someone on that flight. I was hoping none of the Lexington DISers were on that flight headed to Atlanta to make an Orlando connection.

Again, sorry about your friends. :grouphug:

This is so sad. I feel so horrible for all families of the victims. Today is our 11th month anniversary; so the thought that that couple who just got married last evening will never experience such precious moments together as man and wife, just makes me want to cry.

was that the runway they repaved? I thought it was the other, longer one. Not that it matters at this point :(

I heard on the Louisville news about a couple that was confirmed on that flight - someone from the University of Kentucky...not sure if they are the same people or not. My sympathies on your loss. {{hugs}}

Yes, it was the longer runway (22) that was repaved. But the shorter runway (26) interesects (22) almost immediately. The longer runway (22) was also extended on each end...so that the entry ramp to the runway has changed...and is even closer now to (26).

I'm not saying this was the cause. It's just hard to beileve that this could happen...and I was trying to make sense of it.

Thanks for everyone's kind words...I'm sure many thousands of peoples lives will be affected.

Kycat, my sympathies. I'm a UK grad myself.
