I have two friends that were traveling with me to Disney. Now they both refuse to fly-ever.
They purchased non-refundable tickets. Does anyone know if there is a way around this?
Can a voucher be issued for the price of the tickets less the fee for someone else to use, or are they stuck with worthless tickets? Delta of course had no compassion.

I'm sorry-but I don't see it as Delta not having compassion.

The airlines were exceptionally compassionate to people who were truly inconvenienced or damaged by the cowardly acts of a terrorist. They HEMMORAGED money to take care of stranded passengers, and allow people to make changes. They are not non-profit organizations. They have shareholders, and a bottom line.

Your friends entered into a contract. They purcahsed tickets to fly. Delta is continuing to honor that contract. It is issues with terrorists, not Delta that is keeping them from flying. Delta was in no way culpable for the actions of these madmen, nor should they be held responsible in a moral or financial sense.

If our airlines fold, so will our entire economy. You will no longer get your mail in a timely manner (how do you think it gtes moved around?) The price of commercial goods will increase. Some 200,000 people in the travel and tourism industry will become jobless--are you ready to offer them financial support? On top of that, they will then not be adding to our economy, and we will fall deeply into recession.

Your friends have the right to not fly. That is THEIR choice. But don't expect the Delta to foot the bill.

The tickets are non-refundable, which means they also can't be transferred. They *Might* be able to donate them to charity and take tax writeoff, you would have to speak to Delta and your tax advisor about that.

I think Delta has been wonderful. They cancelled my flight (just found out) and are refunding my ticket money for 3. My DH is flying down the morning before, but nothing can be done about refunding his yet. She said if Delta cancels flights, we can have our $$ back, fly on a different flight, whatever I wanted. The only way out for my DH is if they cancel his flight. I can't fault Delta for not allowing a refund, but I thought I plead my case ;) Actually, if DH didn't want to fly, he can get a voucher and pay $50 and fly at another time. His company is paying for it anyway and told him not to worry if he didn't want to fly.

I think flying is safer now anyway. I've said this from day one, if we all keep demanding/complaining, we won't have ANY airline to fly on. We must be understanding. Know one wanted this to happen. I was willing to fly or drive and lose $$ for the tickets. I didn't complain about the policy of "non-refundable" because I understood that from the beginning.

I booked POFQ for two more nights (we're driving now) at the same discounted rate!

Delta was also great with me. My flight for tomorrow night was cancelled, and although I called and rebooked before they called me to advise me, they worked with me extremely well to get me on another flight. They also did a follow up call 2 days ago to make sure I was happy with my rebooked flight. They couldn't have been more helpful.
