delta miles?

doesn any1 know anything about delta sky miles? My dad says he has some delta sky miles from his credit card he has but we dont really know too much about it. Can any1 use them or is it just for him? Do the miles really save you money? any advise would be appreciated!

He can use them to purchase tickets in anyone's name, but he cannot transfer them to someone else's account.

-30,000 / 60,000 miles to Caribbean or Mexico
-35,000 / 75,000 miles to Hawaii
-35,000 / 60,000 miles to Central America
-35,000 / 70,000 miles to Northern South America
-50,000 / 90,000 miles to Europe and Southern South America
-60,000 / 120,000 miles to Japan, Korea, Southeast Asia
-80,000 / 120,000 miles to Africa, Middle East, South Asia
-100,000 / 150,000 miles to South Pacific


Generally you get a greater value for your miles if you use them for a longer trip such as Europe or Asia. You also get a greater value for your miles if you fly First or Business as opposed to coach. A First or Business ticket would cost 5-10 times more expensive than discounted coach if you use money but if you use miles First is only twice as many miles as Coach.

You can use the miles to travel on ANY Skyteam airline. Award travel allows for a free stopover OR Open Jaw allowing you to explore more than one destination for the price of one.

I just used 25,000 miles to purchase a ticket for my nephew to attend my ex-brother-in-law's memorial in New Mexico. Delta still charged us $110 extra fees for booking an awards ticket less than 20 days in advance using an agent. They wouldn't waive the fees for bereavement...

He can transfer them, for a fee. I believe there is a promotion for extra miles if you transfer this month.

Since he has a Delta AMEX card he can also use the pay with miles program where 10000 miles = $100 off your ticket.

I just used delta miles to buy my husband a ticket Las Vegas to Newark RT, 25,000 miles. It is sometimes hard to find tickets using only 25,000 miles. What is nice us that on the website you now get other airlines too to pop up. DH came here on Delta, but returns to Las Vegas on a Continental DIRECT flight.

This is only if it's a Gold or Platinum Delta Amex card. We've used this several times now since they do not charge you a processing fee plus it's nice when there are no lower point award tickets available.

Some things:
--The closer you are to your travel dates the harder it will be to find skysaver tickets.
--He can log into his skymiles account on delta.com to look at award tickets that are available for your travel dates.
--There will be processing fees depending on the flights.
--If you cancel an award flight they charge you $50 per ticket but will replace the miles in your father's skymiles account.
--He can transfer for them to another skymiles account but it will cost him a fee and you can only transfer a certain amount a year.

I love my Delta American Express card. I use it for all of my general expenses - gas, groceries, etc and pay it off every month. Most of my purchases fall into the double miles category so miles add up quickly.

I was able to use miles (for the first time) for my upcoming trip (5/31-6/7). The ticket cost was 50K miles. There were no Skysavers available on the days I needed. But, I still love that I got a free ticket nonetheless. It took 2 years of AmEx spending and several trips (including one to Hawaii) to earn it, but it is still worth it to me.
