Delta keeps switching our seats around...

Ive never had my Delta seats ever change and ive flown them alot? I feel so bad for you guys with bad experiences I fly Delta and United alot and never get issues I wish airlines could provide more consistent experiences for everyone. Maybe its because for Delta im a medallion member. and 1K with United (i used to work in a job that involved alot of travel) But i don't know. Ill just try to give everyone some good delta vibes! :)

My 12yo son and I are flying on Delta to Orlando in October. Based on what I learned from this site, I have been checking regularily on our seating assignments, and everything has been OK, until today...

Apparently on June 4 (2 days ago), they changed to a smaller plane, and they reassigned seats, splitting us up. So now my son is seated near the front of the plane and I am seated near the back. The problem is that there are ZERO seats on the seat selector, so no seat changes can be made.

Any thoughts and suggestions on what to do? Talking with Delta, the only advice they gave was to try to get them changed at the airport on the day of departure.

Check it daily. One time last year on a business trip I could not get a seat assignment, all were taken. I kept watching it and finally one opened in the back so I took it. Kept watching and 2 opened in the front, I ended up in row 2 (no first class).

Worse comes to worse, I'm sure someone who has a seat in the back will be willing to move to your son's seat in the front.

Most airlines are bad at changing planes, flight times, etc, but Delta is especially bad at also changing your seats around when there is a change ... in future, you can have all your reservations "linked" so that when seat changes are made, they will try and seat you all together - it just requires a phone call to the reservations number to have them linked. Not guaranteed that will work though

Guess we might be an exception to the rule here. We actually love Delta and use them every trip out of Hartford to Orlando. They have the best non-stop times of all the airlines here and for this coming trip the best price. We have only had our seats moved twice due to changing the plane type. To me its not really a big deal. I usually check my flights once a week and make any necessary changes. Unfortunately everyone is complaining about Delta but our daughter has had more trouble with United and American than we have ever had with Delta. Sometimes its the luck of the draw.

Got to the airport last year on a Delta flight that was overbooked according to on-line check-in. Well, Delta had the NERVE to reassign our seats and FORCED DD and I to sit in First Class. Hey, I paid good money ($69 EACH) for those coach seats!! :lmao:

Disgusting. Whatever happened to customer service? :rolleyes1 :rotfl::rotfl:

When we arrived at 4 am for our 6 am flight, seat assignments in hand for three adults (including a disabled passenger with a wheelchair assistance request) and two kids under 7, we were told that for some reason we had ALL been put on standby at our connecting city! .
In this case they still have to ask for volunteers and pay compensation if you don't get on. Unless you don't arrive at the connecting flight gate on time including because of a too short connection in which case they have to handle it as a missed connection.

:thumbsup2 I agree with checking daily. This just happened to us on Jetblue. We are flying in Sept. Booked the "extra leg room" seats on the flight down. Just happened to check our flight info a few weeks ago & saw we went from row 2 to row 27. :scared1: I realized that Jetblue had downsized our plane. No other seats were available. Really upset & annoyed that we booked first day flights were available & now we were in the back of the plane.

I kept checking seat assignments & within a few days, seats opened up in row 5! Able to change our seats & luckily we were not charged for the extra leg room seats anyway. I am definately checking my seat assignments regularly from now on.

Good luck! Hope you get this settled soon! :)

Keep checking on a daily basis. If they get more requests, they may change to a larger plane. Also, check in early and mention it at the counter at the terminal (not baggage drop off).

I used Delta's online contact forms to explain the situation and determine what my options are. Got a response this morning, and they were able to seat us together. :thumbsup2
