We always new there was a baggage fee of $25 per bag, but that used to be round trip. We just called, and they said NOW it is $25 per bag, each way, so that's $50 a person...we have 9 bags...that's the price of a full airline ticket...it's highway robbery, it's outrageous.

AND they said we have to pay the baggage fees 24hrs ahead of time before we are flying and it HAS to be paid online only...we will be on the ship, but they said that's too bad, that we'll have to drag our luggage off of the ship and bring it to the airport ourselves because Disney can't touch our bags and bring them to the airport for us if the baggage fees for the airline are not paid....but we can not pay the fees before we get on the ship, we are ONLY allowed to pay within 24hrs of flying and like that, it HAS to be online only(there is no internet connection on the ship)....rrrrrr....they make it REALLY difficult to fly, I don't think I'll be flying anytime soon after this trip. :headache:

so sorry to hear that -- do you have the 'miles' card with Delta? you may be able to call their customer service line and speak with an agent to see if you can get some help with it if you're a loyal Delta airlines flyer. it's worth a shot, what's the worse they can tell you??

if you have Southwest by you, i'd look into flying with them on your next trip. as of now, bags fly free and you can usually get great deals to Orlando too.

wishing you all the best!!! :wizard:

Sorry that you are frustrated! The bag fees have been one-way for a while now. Here's a great website that might help you out: www.onebag.com.

It's been that way for a while. The only thing I can say is pack less stuff or take some carry-on baggage. 9 bags is a ton of luggage - how many people is that?

And I have news for you - if anyone in your group has more than 1 bag to check, it's going to be more that $25 each way. You don't have to pay the luggage fees ahead of time - that is just untrue - but some airlines will charge you more if you check in at the airport, and Delta is one of those airlines. All the legacy carriers might do this now, actually. Delta's charges are as follows:

*Paying bag fees online prior to flight:
-1st bag - $23
-2nd bag - $32

*Paying bag fees at the airport:
-1st bag - $25
-2nd bag - $35

WOW... checking 9 bags? Is this Kate Gosselin? :rotfl:
How many people are going?

Can you pack a few carry on bags to off set the cost?

When did you purchase your tickets? If it was between July 16, 2009-Jan. 4 2010 then these are the fees. I was wondering how many people are going because if there are 9+ then 9 bags would be considered "first" checked bags, but if there are 5 going then you would have 5 "first checked" bags and "4" second checked bags. Also, it looks like you can pay when you arrive, but the cost is higher. This is from Deltas site:

If checking in online at delta.com
• $15 for the first checked bag
• $25 for the second checked bag

If checking in via ticket counter, kiosk, or curbside at the airport
• $20 for the first checked bag
• $30 for the second checked bag

Current rates for tickets purchased after that date:
Checked Baggage Exceptions
Passengers traveling to or from Key West, Florida are limited to only one checked bag.
-if checking in online at delta.com
$23 USD for the first checked bag
$32 USD for the second checked bag
-if checking in via ticket counter, kiosk, or curbside at the airport
$25 USD for the first checked bag
$35 USDfor the second checked bag

So it looks like you can pay at the airport, but the rate will be $25 instead of $23.

I think the OP was talking about something like RAC on the cruise? They didnt want to have to schlep their bags back to MCO they wanted "DME" for the cruise to handle them?

The airlines I fly have always charged the bag fee each way, but the fee started out lower.

How many people do you have traveling with you that you need to take 9 bags? I'm guessing that you must be traveling with a very large group.

Like the others have mentioned the each way baggage fees have been around for a while now. And like someone else mentioned if one person have more than one bag the fee is higher than $25.

Most cruise ship have laundry facilities. Perhaps you can scale back on the bags and do laundry mid-cruise.

Sorry you are so frustrated.

Isn't there an 800# you can call to pay for the bags? That's the way they do it at WDW resorts. This is a Disney ship? Don't they have an internet cafe?

Can someone at home do it online for you?

I listed in my reply above but thought I'd write it seperately incase it got lost in the shuffle.

Deltas site said that for Key West & Florida destination Delta is only allowing one checked bag per passenger.

No, it says Key West, Florida. Not all of Florida. Just the city of Key West Florida. I imagine because they fly small planes out of Key West.

That is incorrect! The bag fees were always one-way.

AND they said we have to pay the baggage fees 24hrs ahead of time before we are flying and it HAS to be paid online only

Also incorrect. You get a slight discount if you pay for your checked bags online but you can most certainly pay for your bag fees at the check-in counter.

What cruise ship are you on that doesn't have an internet cafe? And 9 bags, please tell me you have at least 12 - 15 people traveling with you.

What the OP is probably referring to is paying baggage fees when using RAC at Disney resorts. In that case, yes, the fee has to be paid in advance for them to take the luggage at RAC. Unless DCL has the same type of service, two things may be getting mixed up here...

The OP doesn't want to let facts get in the way of venting.

SW lets passengers check 2 bags without charge. JetBlue one bag. You should include any applicable fees to check bags when comparing fares between different airlines.

AFAIK fees to check bags have always been one way. Not everyone books a R/T flight.

AFAIK every main line cruise ship has an internet cafe. The Disney ships have one.

The OP could also ask someone at home to check them in.

BAGS, Inc is the RAC company used by Disney. According to their website:

A: Yes, you are still responsible for all applicable airline fees. These fees will be placed on your ship board account

As part of the service BAGS takes care of the online check in and obtains your BPs.

This information is from BAGS website. You might post in the DCL forum. It's possible DCL handles things differently.

With that amount of luggage, did you think about shipping via UPS or FedEx? They can guarantee your delivery on your arrival day and it will be shipped directly to your resort. Just an option to check into.

The OP is taking a cruise. They want to use the service which gets their bags from outside their cabin door directly to their airlines.

Haven't seen the OP back on here...

Looks like they may be doing Disney for a few days then taking a cruise. Maybe they could do laundry at their resort or on the ship to avoid having to take so many bags?:confused3

Please...no flames....not saying this to be rude.. but I am wondering how many people are traveling to bring 9 bags? We do up to 10 days in a carry on bag w/ snorkeling stuff. We also bring a backpack for our personal item.
