We were looking at United, until we learned that the SYD-LAX route would be with just the main screen cabin tv. So, then we looked at flying with Delta, and got some really good prices. And then learned that there's NO entertainment what so ever!

What is going on? Why are the Sydney/America routes so backwards when it comes to in-flight entertainment? The United plane entertainment setup is the same as when we flew Heathrow to Chicago back in 1988!!! :scared1:

What is going on? Am I missing something? In this day and age, are there really international long haul flights that have no or extremely limited in-flight entertainment???

Cheers guys!

Yup. You're not missing anything other than In-flight Entertainment.

No In-flight entertainment on United during the Kangaroo route at all. In today's modern day and age, you would think that United would do better. :sad2:

You just gave me a bit of a scare as we are flying Virgin Australia but our flight home is Delta they have entertainment here is a link
http://www.delta.com/content/www/en...n-flight-services/products/entertainment.html

I really hate to tell you this, but that's the flights we were looking at. We were flying on the Delta/Virgin codeshare back - we were just booking with Delta direct, rather than through Virgin. We have spoken to Delta via their online chat, given them the flight number and details and were told that there was no entertainment available on our flight at all.

If you go into Delta's website and "book" a flight, the icons that show up for the SYD-LAX route is Ecomony Comfort only. No entertainment :( This was one thing that really confused us since Virgin and Delta codeshare, I would expect the same, or at least similar amenities to be provided by both carriers. However, this appears not to be the case with in-flight entertainment. :sad2:

Not sure if this helps, but we flew to LAX with Virgin last year and Delta codeshare return to Sydney. Delta plane did have seatback IFE. Maybe it's just not showing up in the amenities list?

It sure would be a looong flight home with nothing to look at.

I am checking it out now

Okay, that's interesting. What I'm more concerned with is the Delta representative actually checked it out. I could understand if it didn't show up on the website, but the representative said yes they do, but both have said there is nothing.

I am beginning to miss the days when we could fly LGW/LHR to MCO with a myriad of airlines, some direct some indirect, without having to worry about all this! lol :crazy2: :badpc:

We did the same last October. Virgin code share on Delta LAX to SYD and we had individual screens so its strange their telling you you don't get it :/

I will be calling tomorrow to find out but everything I have found says there is entertainment
http://www.seatguru.com/airlines/Delta_Airlines/Delta_Airlines_Boeing_777-200ER.php

If it only starts at economy comfort then we will be upgrading I think we can do that free anyway will be calling TA in the morning.

That's probably a good idea. Maybe it is just our particular flights? I guess I will have to call Delta yet again, and spend another 30mins+ on hold to see if I can find out some more information :sad2:

I think Economy Comfort is an additional charge, unless you're a high level flying club member. But I agree, I have a feeling we would upgrade too, especially if it meant some form of entertainment.

This is what I am not understanding. I know SeatGuru has the 777-200ER listed, and the plane we are on is going to be 777-200LR, but they surely can't be that different. Although, I don't know why I'm surprised that there's conflicting information - so far everything about Delta has been contradictory! ;)

I flew United the first time and they were good...until I discovered VAustralia and their awesomeness! United entertainment was bearable for just me but when I was looking at travelling with a little one the one on one entertainment was brilliant. As much as we love VAustralia we are looking at flying Qantas next night, my mother has just done a roundtrip with them to UK and raved about them.

I would love to fly Quantas, but when they're nearly $1000 more expensive for 3 adults, it's just not feasible!

Well, I am sat on the phone, yet again, to Delta, so I'll see what they have to say. I have my flights up on the planner and no icons appearing, and yet I just found the In Flight Entertainment FAQs and it says:

"And there's even more available on Delta's flagship 777-200LR fleet — up to 200 films, 100 hours of HBO on Demand and more than 4,000 MP3s."

So now I'm even more confused! :worried:

UPDATE: After another looooooong wait in the queue to speak with Delta US (this time I went through SkyMiles which I signed up for this morning!), I finally have an answer and I can relax:

The DL16 / DL17 both have Delta On Demand!:worship: Horrah!

I mentioned to the lady the icon wasn't showing up for online booking and she was just as baffled as I was as to why it showed no entertainment! lol She also really wants to come to Sydney to see a Koala!!!! :rotfl: She made my stressful evening a whole lot better!

So, panic over, and another bit of conflicting information put to rest!

777..great aircraft....syd-lax

usa domestic flights rarely have IFE...over head screens most of the time

delta is a good product to fly, and economy comfort is worth every $$$$$

Yeah, not bothered by the internal flights. The economy comfort was coming up at $149 per person, each way, so we opted against that! We are, however, now all booked, and as far as we can tell, we have the 2 free bags on the single internal leg (the LAX-MCO 2days later) as well as the international!!!

even not traveling econ comfort the seats are comfy(a bit firm so use a pillow) and leg room is more generous than virgin or anz.....

at the end of the day, its a mode of transport and does the job well.

enjoy!

Exactly. An airplane is an airplane. They are all cramped, not that luxurious and the food is usually rubbish. But they get you from A to B. So that's the main thing :thumbsup2

Hi Twilight Terror - I wish that I had seen this thread yesterday, I could have told you not to panic!!

We just flew Delta Sydney to LA, LA to NYC, NYC to Orlando, Orlando to Las Vegas and Las Vegas to LA. We flew Virgin home and have been back for just over 2 weeks. On every flight we had our own TV screens and free baggage. We flew Economy Comfort on every leg except Vegas to LA (it's a 39 minute flight!), and it was beyond worth it for us (at 6 feet tall I am the second shortest in my family)! Even though we were in the Economy Comfort seats - all of the other seats had screens too.

I couldn't fault Delta - they were great, and so were VAustralia - now I just have to book another holiday so that I can give you another review!! I'm glad that you have sorted it out and that you can plan without any more stress!
