Delta flight change suggestions

My original flight was cancelled when I checked online yesterday. In a panic, I took flights that I didn't really want once I thought it over. I was using skymiles, so usually flights are limited. I called back this morning to see if I could change our flights. There were no skymiles seats available on the flights I wanted, but the person I spoke with got me the seats anyway. I was very polite to her, and I think that was the key. I am sure they are getting many irate guests calling and making demands.

Always better to go into something like this nicely, expecting nothing, rather than going in irate, expecting everything.

1. It's nice to be important but it is much more important to be nice.

2. If your flight is cancelled the airline is still required to use its best efforts to transport you in the same section of the plane even though you booked a "restricted" award or the lowest discount fare. Not having "cheap" seats "in inventory" does not constitute inability to transport that lets the airline weasel out by offering a refund.

I was afraid this is what was going to happen - that they wouldn't have any award seats and would offer back the miles rather than to put us on a flight with no award seats available. It was a nice surprise.
