Delta flight change question

Does any one know how much of a change in flight departure/arrival time Delta would require before considering letting you change your flight without penalities??

Most airlines have a 2 hour window. Having said that I have been able to change flight at 45 minutes/ 1 hour window, a lot depends on who you get on the phone. If you don't get what you want, try again. If it is 15/20 minutes save your time. Good luck

Delta's T&Cs says two hours. It can't hurt to ask though.

Well my change is only one and half hours but will cause me to have to change/cancel a meeting so I may try it. Nothing ventured nothing gained.

I have always had great luck with Delta regarding time changes. I've had changes as little as 30 minutes and they have allowed me to change flights. Just give them a call!

I think Delta is going out there way to service their customers right now since everyone is fearing the bankruptcy situation. My return flight changed 50 minutes and when I called to change it to a totally different (much later) return flight, they didn't even hesitate. Did it in a second with no charge.

Now, for the heck of it while I was on the line, I also tried to change my departure flight to an earlier flight for free and they laughed and said, sorry, no way but nice try.

So, if an airline changes your flight time and then allows you to change without a penalty fee, do you still have to pay if there's a difference in fares?

We have usually had good luck with Delta.

We used FF miles for Spring Break (first class). We purchased the tickets as soon as they had opened and we have had several schedule changes, mostly to our advantage. This last change kicked us out of first class on one of our 4 flights. We are flying into Savannah and they only have 3 first class flights available for the day and they are early AM, we miss our connection in ATL, or late at night (all 3 bad choices). We kept the non-first class leg and the re-issue desk noticed on our flight arriving we had almost a 3 hour layover in ATL. She offered to change that flight so we only had a 1 hour layover and she credited our Skymiles account 2,500 miles each person as a resolution. I was pretty happy with that since the flight from SAV to ATL is only 1 hour long. I am checking the Delta sight in case something first class opens up because she said I could change it to first class if something became available.

I've had good luck with Delta as well, when I've just explained the reasons why the change was a problem for me. For example, they made a change that was a small time change (20 minutes), but only allowed a 45 minute connection time and I was traveling with my elderly mother who uses her own wheelchair which makes short connection times hair-raising, esp. if there is even a tiny delay, as they've got to unload her chair, get her in it, etc., etc. They cheerfully worked with me to find flights that worked better and made all changes at no charge and even offered to change the incoming flight to a better schedule (even though Delta hadn't altered that flight) at no charge, which I gratefully accepted. I have noted that this reservation (Dec. 7th to Dec 14th 2005) has had much more frequent changes than I have experienced in the past, but then I switched to Delta after a flight change on American with no alternatives that worked for me, so it isn't just Delta. (American refunded the original tickets and I rebooked on Delta.)

I called to see about this last night but the customer service representative I got spoke very very accented English and I could barely understand her so once she finally told me about the changes(which I knew) and my new seat assignments, I was tired of having her repeat things so I said Thank you and will call back today and try again.

Update
I did call yesterday and was able to change my flight to one day earlier at no extra cost. It was no problem at all they even apologized for the inconvenience. Called CRO got check in a day early at ASMo so am all set. If February would only get here.

Congratulations! It is fun when you get an extra day. DD and I are going to DL via Alaska Air and we got an extra day because of their flight changes. I actually wanted to book it that way, but the ticket was so much more expensive flying home on a Sunday than on a Saturday. So, when Alaska was able to rebook us coming home on Sunday I was THRILLED! :cool1:

We are flying Song in Feb (owned by Delta) and had the same issues when they changed the times of our flights. They moved our return flight up one hour from 8:00 AM to 7:00 AM and I was able to move to a 4:30 PM flight. We are a party of 9 and were worried about having to leave for the airport by 5 - 5:15AM (according to the towncar company) Who in the world wants to get up and leave the hotel (after checking out) by 4:00 in the morning? So Song changed us to the 4:30 PM flight and we get a few additional hours at WDW, probably spend it at DTD. Either way there was no charge for changing their change (LOL)
