I found non-stop fares for next June on Delta Express (on Delta's website) from Boston for $158 roundtrip!!

This is incredibly cheap compared to what other airlines and other, surrounding airports (Hartford, Providence, etc.) have listed for that time.

QUESTION: Is there any reason NOT to buy them now? (other than our arrival and departure dates might change) My DH wondered whether we have to worry about the airline going bankrupt before then!!

ALSO, does it seem remotely possible that we'd find anything any better?

ALSO, do we have to worry about the price rising if we don't buy them now, or does the price stay set??

We have done very little air travel so your experience is invaluable to us!!

zoe dog, I just bought our tickets from Delta.com this morning! We're going from Boston to Orlando, non stop, on Dec 6th and returning Dec 10th. Our price is $157.50 per person, round trip, almost the same price you got. I decided to buy mine now because when we went to Disney World in May we paid over $200 per person, round trip on USAir. At that time, Delta was even more than that. I'm hoping the prices eventually come down and we end up with a voucher! That'd be a good incentive to go back again in the not too distant future. LOL

Hopefully BeverlyLynn will respond to your post, she's the resident expert on airlines and airfares.

To answer one of your questions: I know that the airfare could go up at any time, and unless you actually purchase tickets, you wouldn't keep the original airfare.

Good luck!! :)

It's possible you could find something better later as fares get reduced to increase loads. I just flew last week on Delta Express on a $118 RT fare. But there's no guarantee that fares will go that low again.

Delta's got a great offer going on right now:

Fly Delta Express BOS-MCO on any Tuesday, Wednesday, or Saturday in September, 2001 and pay $55 each way. Book online and save $5 on one way or $10 on RT tickets. Purchase at least 14 days in advance by 9/30. Trip must be completed by 10/3.

So you never know.

We're flying from IND to MCO for $120 (includes taxes) roundtrip in Oct. Flying out on Mon, back late on Sat

Right now Delta is trying to put the screws to AirTran airlines. Delta, like other airlines is hurting because of lower business traffic levels. Airtran, like Delta, is based out of Atlanta and takes a lot of business away from Delta. Delta is currently in an all-out fare war with Airtran hoping to force Airtran out of some of their markets, so that they can return to their higher fares without competition from a low-fare airline...thus the low Boston fares you are seeing. (Boston is served by Airtran along with Delta).

Notice any similarities between the two webpages below? See....

By the way, the prices are not set and the $157 ticket could go up. It sounds like this is a fairly good rate! If they are in a fare war with another airline it may not last so airfares could go back up. Who knows?

I am SOOO glad I bought my tickets 2 days ago! I paid $157 for a NON-stop, round trip flight from Boston to MCO for the first week in Dec., and when I just checked now those same flights are $189! So I saved $64 on the 2 tickets I bought. Yay. I finally got a deal on something. LOL

Just checked the fares and found out that the same flights have risen from $158 to $209.24!

Luckily we aren't going until next June so hopefully the price will dip again.

Hestitated to buy them before because we may have to change our dates if school is cancelled for a lot of snow days (and DH is a teacher so skipping the last few days of school is not an option). But may just take a chance if they get down low again.

zoe dog, I just saw the same thing tonight. The same tickets I paid $157 for 3 days ago are now over $200. If you're not going till June you still have plenty of time for them to come back down. We're going in Dec, and I thought they sounded like a decent rate, that's why I grabbed them. Good luck to you for good airfare for June!! :)

Boston is approx 1 hr from me and hartford 1 1/2 hr from me just booked from hartford for $97 round trip including taxes

If traveling in June your best bet is to wait. Typically, the rates lower 2 months prior to departure date. This will "fill" the seats while the higher prices paid, pays for the flight!

We waited until August to book our November trip and got $93/rt non stop to MCO! Then we found $75/rt non stop and booked two additional trips this fall. This offer is only good til 1/11/02 on SWA!

Who is Figment, when are you going. I just checked fares from bdl for next may on Delta and get 180.00 per person. Thanks for any info.
