I'm currently booked on Delta with connecting flights in ATL. I know flights change, and thay have made some monor time changes (1/2 hour later arrival, 1/2 hour later departure). They have a ComAir regional jet (Delta Connections) non-stop that has great times...but I've never flown on these small 50 seat jets. Are they comfortable or "bumpier/rougher" flights than the MD-80/737 type jets?

I usually like BIG (DC-10/777) jets, I find them the smoothest.

I LOVE the 50 seater jets. They board quickly, the seats are comfy. They don't seem to fly as "high" as the bigger jets, so don't kill my ears upon descent.

Hope this helps.

If you are over 6' tall some people find the regional jets uncomfortable for long flights. We get a lot of them out of IND, so I have gotten used to them. I think they are perfectly fine, even being over 6' tall.

clkelley is right, they fly a little lower than the big jets, but they are fast, get off the ground quickly, and provide a smooth flight.

If the times work for you, take it. The only big difference is that you may not be able to carryon as much, but you can gate check it. Drop it off as you get on the plane and pick it up the minute you get off.

No, regional jets are one class. However, I have seen someone show a first class boarding pass from a connecting flight and get free alcohol on a regional jet.

I love the gate checking portion!! Don't have to worry about folks dragging roller bags through the plane. If I know I'm flying on nothing but commuters, I don't check my luggage and avoid the carousel without worrying about filling up the overheads and under my seat as I know it will go under the plane anyway :-)

I fly on these jets frequently. I am 6'2" and have no problems with head room or leg room either. I also enjoy the gate check feature. Its comvienient too. You get to the gate with your carry-on they as you board the plane you place it by the door then they will put in in cargo hold for the flight. You get off the plane and your carry-on is waiting for you.

That used to be the case. There are now 2-class configured jets, but Comair does not fly those.

I think you'll find that a regional jet is fine for travel under 3 hours. Over that, I might consider a connection.

Thank you all for your responses. If Delta changes our connecting flights so they are not convenient, I'll see if we can get on the ComAir flights.

One thing to keep in mind about connecting in Atlanta (ATL) -- if your connection time is tight you may find yourself having far more fun than you intend. There have been a number of times when I've had to hustle from terminal to terminal to make that connection -- and it was faster than waiting for the tram. And why is it when I have two hours on the ground my gates are right next to each other, and when I have 30 minutes or less they're on seperate concourses at the very end!!!
